“Thank you, Grandma and Grandpa,” I murmured. “Please be happy where you are and don’t worry about me. My heart has finally found its true home in Oliver.”

I looked back to Oliver and smiled.

My heart…has finally come home.

OLIVER

The sun was shining brightly in Georgetown today—a sign that my beautiful fiancée took to mean that we could spend the entire day on her heart project.

When we got back from our trip in Europe, I was surprised to find that the leaky roof of the veranda had been fixed. What was even more surprising was that my beloved actually had a shed of tools, which included, among others, acircular saw.

I would never have imagined Amanda wielding a power tool like that but I had long since learned to expect the unexpected from her.

Even after spending so much time with her, she still managed to surprise me in the most wonderful ways.

“You know,” she grinned slyly at me. “Grandma Margaret used to tell me there was nothing hotter than watching Grandpa Frederick work on this veranda. She said she used to ‘interrupt’ him a couple of times just because she couldn’t resist herself.”

I laughed and pinched her nose gently. “Well, if you put it that way, we’ll never get anything done.”

“I don’t think we’ve done much of anything since we got back together,” she laughed. “It’s your fault that you’re so irresistible.”

“Can I help it?” I laughed. “You’re pretty damn irresistible yourself. I can’t keep my hands off of you.”

I gathered her into my arms and kissed her deeply, enjoying the way her body fit into mine as she moaned softly into our kiss. As my hands wandered down her luscious curves, I heard an impatient bark and looked down to see Buddy looking at us, his tongue lolling out of his mouth.

“Buddy,” I groaned. “I thought you would be on my side on this! Men should stick together and help each other.”

Amanda laughed and her voice dropped seductively. “If you help me finish my project today, then I will make sure it’s well worth your time.”

The promise in her voice was all the incentive I needed, which made her shake her head and laugh at me.

What did I say? I will do anything for her…All Amanda really has to do is be…her.

I smiled indulgently at her as I changed into my old clothes. We were going to be painting the veranda today and as I had learned before, not all the projects we set out doing end up the way we initially planned.

Like that one time Amanda decided to clean up the chandelier in the living room and she caught me peeking up her dress.

Or that time we cleaned out the refrigerator, only to end up with a different—moredecadent—feast.

Thinking about all the times we did housework and somehow managed to end up in bed made me almost consider just staying at home and indulging in all sorts of projects with my lovely fiancée.

Of course, it didn’t hurt that Amanda had endless ideas for projects around the house but the veranda always had a special place in her heart.

Originally, the house that Grandpa Frederick and Grandma Margaret bought didn’t have a veranda. It was Grandpa Frederick who built all of that after he and Grandma Margaret moved in and decided on the installment.

And according to Amanda, it took longer than it should have because the newlyweds always ended up doing something else in much the same way that Amanda and I did.

After we had changed into our working clothes, Amanda and I walked out hand in hand to the shed, where we had earlier kept the cans of paint for the veranda. We decided to paint it white as Grandpa Frederick originally did.

“So, I’ll go work on the roof and you can take the railings and the posts,” I told her, looking up at the front of the house. “That way, we can cover a lot of ground at the same time.”

“Yes, sir!” she said with a snappy salute. She was dressed in cutoff denim shorts and an overlarge white shirt that dwarfed her frame. Her blonde hair was tied up in a braid to keep it out of the way while she worked. When she smiled at me, I found myself falling into her sparkling sea green eyes all over again.

I will never ever not find this woman beautiful, I thought to myself, the love I had for her blooming in my chest. It’s like every single time I look at her, I fall in love all over again.

Buddy barked enthusiastically and we both laughed as we got to work.
