I tipped my head back, my brow furrowed in confusion. “What do you mean?”

His gaze traveled over my shoulder, and when I followed it, I saw he was looking at Daniel who was standing at the edge of the dance floor with a few of the other guys who worked security, talking and laughing.

“Did there used to be something between you and that guy?”

“Daniel?” I asked on a laugh. “No. No way. He’s just a flirt. There’s nothing there and never has been.”

He arched a brow in contemplation as he looked at me for a few seconds, then glanced back at Daniel. I felt his hand slink farther down, half on the upper swell of my ass, half on the small of my back.

“What are you doing?”

“Testing a theory,” he answered just before a smug grin tugged at his lips. “And I’m right.”

“What theory?”

He returned his attention to me. “You may not be into him, but he wants you.”

I laughed and shook my head because Daniel wasn’t even on my radar. “Uh-oh,” I teased. “Are you jealous?”

Both of his brows went up that time as his grip on my waist got tighter. “I’ve been waiting a year and a half for you,” he grunted. “What do you think?”

I pulled in a gasp at the raw honesty and intensity of his look. This man.

“Don’t be jealous,” I said breathily. “It might have taken a year and a half, but I’m exactly where I want to be.”

His nostrils flared on a sharp inhale, and I felt the desire he had for me thicken and press against my belly. “How much longer do you think we should stay before I drag you out of here?”

Oh my.

Running my hand up his broad, rippled chest, I smiled. “Maybe one more drink?”

The song ended and he grabbed my hand, dragging me off the dance floor and toward the bar. I giggled, feeling more excited than I had in longer than I could remember as I scurried on my heels after him.

He ordered another Manhattan for me and a beer for himself. “Race you,” he challenged.

“Oh? And what does the winner get?”

“Extra orgasms.”

OWEN

Ifelt like I was coming out of my skin as I led Asher out of the club and toward my Blazer. As much as I’d teased, it was taking everything in me not to throw her over my shoulder and sprint to my truck, then speed through town like the devil himself was on my heels.

I’d kept my cool as she said goodbye to her friends. Those girls meant the world to her. In order for things to work between us, I knew I had to respect those friendships, so I was resigned to stand there, my balls growing bluer by the second while she took her time, determined not to rush her.

I’d waited a year and a half, for fuck’s sake. I could wait a little longer.

I got the passenger door open and took her by the waist, lifting her up and onto the seat, inhaling her scent deeply into my lungs.

“Owen?” she asked once she was settled into place.

I shook my head to clear the fog. “Yeah, baby?”

Her smile was the most brilliant fucking thing I’d ever seen. “You’re going to have to eventually let me go so you can get in on your side.”

“Right,” I grunted.
