Gabrielle and the prince had never made love.Interesting.At least he had that piece of information in his favor. But the knowledge threw up more questions. Why had Gabrielle made love with him?Hadn’t she wanted to wait until her wedding night?
“Damn,” Ramsay muttered.
His phone rang, but he let it go to voicemail. He couldn’t talk to his friends now, not when his feelings darted around like excited, undisciplined puppies, and he wasn’t sure what to do next.
Ramsay followed each link, wanting to ascertain basic facts about Gabrielle. After half an hour, he’d learned she had two older brothers, both married.
As for Gabrielle, she was twenty-one years old and worked hard for several children’s charities. She attended fundraiser functions, but he couldn’t find images of her nightclubbing, hanging out at the beach, or dining at trendy restaurants.Gabrielle didn’t make many public appearances if the gossip pages were to be believed. One of her brothers escorted her to functions, or if her brothers weren’t present, her parents were at her side.
Ramsay thought back. She’d told him she was here for a work function.A quick search showed it had been another children’s charity, but she’d gone solo since it’d been a lunch. She was staying at the hotel in Glenkirk, and he wondered how she’d left without attracting attention. Now that he thought back, she’d kept her head down when they’d left the pub, and she’d let him place his arm around her shoulders. One princess had become part of a couple.
She’d used him.
Ramsay pushed away from the computer and paced, his mind full of pissed feline and angry man thoughts.
He hated the idea she might’ve wanted to get rid of her virginity and had used him for the job.
Fuck.Ramsay had so many questions, and it didn’t look as if he’d receive answers because how did one contact a princess?
Stupid fool.Gabrielle had blinded him with her beauty and charm, and he hadn’t asked the usual questions. She’d diverted him when he’d asked her anything, and instead of getting-to-know-you questions, they’d had incredible, amazing sex.The best he’d ever had.
Okay, no point getting even more pissed. He couldn’t call Gabrielle.Perhaps he could contact her through one of her charities. An option. When was she due to leave Glenkirk?
He did another search, and his shoulders slumped.Too late.Gabrielle had already left for Konstavia.
Great.Bloody fantastic. What if she was pregnant? He couldn’t confess the condom broke, even though he should. He wanted to offer comfort and promise he was there for her if they’d made a child.Hell, if they had, the child would be half shifter, and since feline genes were dominant, their child would shift.
Another headache for him.
He’d go for a walk through the forest and consider his subsequent actions.Yeah.Walking in nature always soothed him—an activity Tomasine had suggested when he was younger. The combination of exercise and the great outdoors always worked for him.
He glanced at the computer and wondered if the reporters had snapped Gabrielle’s photo this morning.Ramsay searched for the local paper and found an online version.A hiss whistled between his teeth, the sound pure agitated feline.
A photo filled the front page—a picture of him as he’d left the hotel.
Mystery man spends the night with Princess Gabrielle.
Bloody hell.It was easy to identify him. He’d have to lie low and pray the press didn’t discover his name.No more visits to town, not if he wanted his identity to remain anonymous.
Ramsay had never stood a chance with Gabrielle. It was time for him to accept a single life. But somehow, he didn’t think he or his feline would forget her in a hurry.
Chapter 9
Prince Gregor Reacts
ThejourneyhometoKonstavia wasn’t so bad since it was just her, Tilly, and the security team. They flew aboard the family jet without the kerfuffle of a public flight.
When their car left the private airfield in Konstavia, photographers jumped from behind bushes. They fired questions, and Tilly immediately pushed the button to close the rear window. One photographer stuck his hand through to halt the closure, then howled and performed until the driver stopped the car.
The man forced down the window.“Princess Gabrielle, is it true you had a one-night stand with a man you met at the Ye Olde Hawk?”
Gabrielle gaped, so shocked it took seconds for her brain to kick-start.Someone had found out.Ramsay had been amazing and so kind. He’d been gentle at first before, showing her how fantastic it was to make love.Ramsay’s behavior had been unaffected because he hadn’t known her history—her princess position and responsibilities.
“Not gonna comment?”the man asked with a nasty sneer.
Gabrielle leaned forward to speak to the driver.“Please drive. If this man can’t remove his person from our vehicle, let him suffer an injury.”
The vehicle shot forward, and the man hurriedly drew back with a curse.
