“They’re still working on my house down in Maple Bend, but it has a fireplace. Two, actually. One in the living room and the master bedroom.”
“Brag,” I grumble and he laughs.
The logs catch fire and I sigh, shifting as heat starts to fill the cabin. Amos crawls over to me and sits down next to me. As soon as he’s next to me, I feel it again. I want to give in to him. I’ve never been attracted to anyone like I am to him.
Maybe it could be a vacation fling or maybe it’s just the fun, the spark, that I was looking for when I first came out here.
I stare into Amos’s eyes, my body swaying toward him, and he swallows hard.
“Do you want to play another game?” he asks quietly, and I nod.
The fire crackles, the candles and flames throwing lights and shadows across our faces.
“Truth or dare?” he asks me, and I lean my head back against the couch cushions.
“Truth.”
“Coward,” he teases me, and I shrug at him.
“Truth,” I say again and he sighs.
“Do you think that you could be happy living somewhere like here? Some small town?”
“Yeah, I think so,” I admit. “I didn’t even realize that I was growing tired of the energy and crowds in New York until I got here and was able to slow down.”
He nods and I relax. I thought that he was going to ask me something super personal. Maybe he’s just easing me into it though.
“Your turn. Truth or dare?”
“Truth.”
“Coward,” I mimic and he laughs. “How many girlfriends have you had?”
“Before you?” he asks and I raise an eyebrow.
“Am I your girlfriend?”
“You’re my everything.”
I can feel my face flushing and I look away from his intense gaze and back to the rain coming down outside.
“I guess one? It wasn’t serious,” he promises me and I laugh. “She was just a fling in high school. It was before I met you. Forgive me?”
“I guess,” I joke and he grins.
“What was her name?”
“Sarah Mill. We went to prom together and one date after but we were both leaving for college soon and didn’t want to do the whole long-distance thing.”
I nod and he turns to me.
“Truth or dare?”
“Dare,” I say after a beat.
“Take your shirt off.”
I burst out laughing.
