Amos finishes brushing his teeth and smiles at me as he steps out of the bathroom.

“Where are we going today?” he asks, and I let him pull me into his arms. He’s always touching me. It’s like he can’t help himself, but it feels natural to always be in his arms or to have his fingers wrapped around mine.

“Want to show me around Maple Bend?” I ask, and he bends down, nuzzling his nose against my neck.

“Whatever you want, love.”

I shiver in his hold and feel him smile against my skin. I wonder if he can feel my heart racing under his lips.

I wonder if he’s as turned on as I am right now.

It hits me then. That thing that I came out here chasing, well, I think that I finally found it. I’m happy now, I’ve been happy since I met Amos. I don’t feel lonely or empty anymore. Amos makes me laugh. He listens to me and I never thought that it would happen to me, but I’ve fallen in love in only a few days.

Amos steps back, taking my hand in his and leading me out to his truck. He opens my door for me and I want to kiss him, but if we start that, then we’ll never make it to Maple Bend.

“Do you want to drive past your house and check on things?” I ask him as we start down the mountain.

“No, when they called this morning, they said that they were still behind schedule. Me stopping by will only delay it even more,” he says and I nod.

He holds my hand the entire drive down to Maple Bend and I smile, enjoying his company and the good weather.

Maple Bend is a charming little town located right by the water of Lake Huron. It’s definitely a tourist town, and I imagine during the summer months this place is packed. Today it looks like any other sleepy little small town in America.

“I can see why you like this place. It’s cute,” I say as we drive down Main Street.

“Yeah, I love being so close to the water.”

“That would be nice,” I muse and he squeezes my hand.

“Want to drive around a bit before we get out?” he asks.

“Sure.”

Amos turns out to be a great tour guide. He researched the area before he decided to move here and he knows a ton of local facts and trivia. He makes me laugh when he sings along to the radio and I realize that I’ve found his flaw. He can’t carry a tune in a bucket. Somehow that only makes him more endearing to me.

We spend the better part of the day popping in and out of little tourist shops and walking along the water. Amos buys us lunch and then ice cream in the afternoon. When the sky starts to turn dark, we decide to pack it in.

“Want to grab a pizza or something for dinner?” he asks as we head back to the cabin.

“Sure, I’m not hungry right now, but I can heat it up later.”

“We’ll just order one later,” he says as a few raindrops hit the windshield.

He hits the wipers and I stare out the window as we wind our way through the forest.

“Are you upset that the weather isn’t behaving for your trip? Maybe you should have come a different week,” he says as he hits the wipers up to the next speed.

“Then we wouldn’t have met,” I point out.

“Good point.”

“I’ve always liked the rain anyway. I wish that I could have hiked some more but it’s not that big of a deal. Some rain isn’t going to ruin this trip for me.”

“Some strange guy can do that,” he teases, and I laugh.

“No, I think you might have saved it,” I whisper but I know that he hears me.

He reaches over, threading his fingers through mine and I open my mouth to ask him if he’s extending his trip now that this house is pushed back more but instead what comes out is, “Do you think that it’s possible to love someone after only a few days?”
