Standing above me, the flickering light of the fire caught the devastatingly handsome angles of his face and slopes of his arm muscles that flexed as he reached for the hem of his t-shirt, his fingers curling under the thin material.
I lay nude before him, vulnerable and aching, my legs still spread, my heart thumping in my chest, and my mind spinning a mile a minute at the anticipation of his maleness coming to fill me.
My wolf demanded it. My heat screamed for it. And my woman yearned for him to sink deep between my thighs.
I jolted at pounding at the front door.
“Alpha Kaden, Alpha Kaden!” Someone bellowed outside.
A snarl formed on his face as he growled. He glanced toward the entrance. “This better be fucking good. Put your clothes on and wait here. There’s a blanket inside that ottoman if you’re cold.”
I jumped up and did as he said while he prowled away, disappearing into the shadows of the dark house. While waiting for what seemed like an eternity, I curled up on the couch under the soft throw I found.
Though we hadn’t had sex, a curious warmth filled my heart and body, a pleasant satisfaction of Kaden. Intimacy. Closeness. Connection.
All of which I had always lacked. And found in him in such a short time.
Something squeezed inside my ribcage and flooded me with a sense of cold. I gasped. A whisper of Kaden’s emotion. Something had alarmed him. Oh, my dear. Our bond wasn’t strong enough for me to know the details of what had happened, though.
Kaden barreled into the living room where I huddled under the throw.
He stopped before me, his face twisted with anger. “Aila, your pack is here. They came to collect you.”
