“I can’t help it if he comes to the bridge.”
“Why were you there at all?”
“Because I didn’t have anywhere else to go.” Sheesh. Is this an interrogation?
“Then why didn’t you call me?”
“I didn’t—I don’t know. I wasn’t sure,” I say lamely.
Pulling into the driveway, he puts the car in park and turns to me, searching my eyes. “You weren’t sure about what?”
Glancing at my lap, I fiddle with my fingers until he raises my chin. “Beauty?”
“I wasn’t sure if I could,” I say, heat blooming in my cheeks.
“Why wouldn’t you?”
“Because it’s not about, you know . . .”
He eyes me strangely for a moment before his brows slam over his nose. “I thought I made myself clear.”
“About what?”
“You’re mine. We’re together.”
“Yeah, but as more than just . . . sex?”
“Yes, beauty,” he purrs. “But there will be lots of sex.”
Clenching my legs together, I sigh when he pulls me in for a sensual kiss before breaking away. “Call me the next time you’re alone.”
“Okay,” I say, dizzy over his declaration. Does this mean . . .? “Cyn?”
“Yeah,” he says, looking up from where he’s gathered his keys and wallet.
“Are we, um, are you my boyfriend?” Once more, I can’t control the heat in my cheeks, and my heart skips a beat because I’m not sure I can take it if he says no.
“Beauty,” he says with an intensity that makes me pause, “I’m your everything.”
Rolling my eyes, I hide my smile and exit the vehicle turning with Cyn when a matching SUV pulls in behind ours, but it’s not Jig or Bastion who exits. It’s the meanest dude I’ve ever seen.
He’s also gorgeous with shaggy golden blond hair, deep blue eyes, and the longest lashes I’ve ever seen. But his eyes are hard and cold, and he emanates so much menace that caution stiffens my spine and I step closer to Cyn.
Cyn sighs and mutters, “What now?”
“Who’s this?” Scary dude asks, looking me over quickly before dismissing me.
“A friend,” Cyn says, “Rain, go wait in the garage. You remember where to go?”
Searching his eyes, I see no room for argument, and with a last glance at the scary dude, I nod and turn away.
Walking around the side of the house, I peek back to see them both staring after me, Cyn with a frown, and I have the sinking sensation this guy is part of Cyn’s affiliation with the Mafia.
Once out of sight, I plaster my back to the wall, waiting quietly, but when they don’t speak, I peek around the wall to find Cyn still staring my way, and when he sees me, he raises a brow.
My cheeks heat, and I wave stupidly before walking away. I pass a window into what I think is the kitchen before entering the garage, and to my surprise, Jig and Bastion are within.
Jig greets me with a broad smile, dropping the game controller and standing. “Lil’ B, what’s up?”
