Page 130 of Forged in Rain

“I guess John owns it. I didn’t know about it until we went looking . . .”

Cyn’s nostrils flare like a bull, and his brows slam even further over his eyes if possible before he turns away and takes a deep breath. “I’m not even going to ask.”

Ignoring the comment because there’s not much I can say, I continue. “The problem is, I don’t know how to get there. But I think I know someone who does.”

“Who?” Jig asks.

“Rand.”

Bastion and Jig take off to find Rand while Cyn stays behind to make sure I behave, no doubt. As soon as they’re out the door, he makes me a sandwich before sitting down beside me with a frown.

Smiling wanly, I eat a few bites before my stomach cramps uncomfortably and I set it back on the plate.

“You need to eat more,” he growls.

“I will. I’m nauseous,” I whisper.

“Beauty?”

“Yeah?” I look into his beautiful green peepers and smile when he pulls me into his arms and strokes my hair.

“We’ll find them.”

“Promise?”

“Promise.”

Sucking in a breath, I pretend that Cyn can control such things and climb into his lap. This is where I feel safest, and I need that feeling so fucking badly right now. He wraps me up, nuzzling my neck and I snuggle deep, surrounded by his strength.

“Thank fuck,” he growls, and I glance up, raising a brow.

Searching my gaze, he sighs heavily before kissing my forehead and saying quietly, “I don’t know what I’d do if something happened to you.”

My soul stutters and I smile. “Me too.”

He pecks me on the lips before leaning into my neck once more. Closing my eyes, I try to push away my swirling thoughts. But I can’t. There’s too much coming at me.

“What about Pam? And McCafferty?” I blurt. As much as I’d like to get lost in him, we’re out of time, and I’m terrified of the road ahead of us.

He stiffens, breathing me in before sitting back with a sigh. “Your aunt is fucked in the head.”

A hysterical giggle escapes, and he grins, the sight of his sexy smile making my heart somersault in my chest. Brushing my hair out of my face, he continues, “Anyway, I don’t know. We either move forward with her plans or figure out another way.”

“Hate hasn’t said anything about McCafferty?”

He shakes his head and grabs my cheeks, pulling me into a fierce kiss that melts my insides before he pulls back and rumbles, “Thank you.”

“For what?” I ask breathlessly.

He hesitates, touching my cheek, and I melt under the warmth of his gaze. “For including Veah and me in your deal.”

“Why wouldn’t I?” I ask.

“Rain, you’re the only one . . . .It’s you. I fucking love you.”

“Cyn,” I sob, leaning in and pressing my mouth to his. “I love you, too.”
