Page 18 of Iris' Lying Eyes

“How about you let us decide who’s worth saving,” Cyn says coldly.

“She can’t be saved,” I scream. “She’s gone.”

Cyn raises his brows as Alice whispers, “She’s dead?”

At her devastated expression, I hesitate, which is a bad move because Bastion looms over me. “What?”

Turning my head, I meet Rain’s troubled gaze. “You think you can take down John? Fine. Hunter? Great. You can’t fight the evil that took Liberty. No one can.”

I should’ve fucking run while I had the chance. Although, I wouldn’t have known about Sam which changes the game—again.

Bastion places his hand beside mine on the table and says, “No one is impenetrable.”

Chuffing, I sneer, “The great senator of this state is.”

Rain’s eyes go wide as Bastion turns away with a grunt, and I smile, the stretch of my lips painful. “She was damned the moment she was born. But Sam, he’s not gone yet.”

“You’re so fucking full of shit, Iris.” Bastion snorts, running his hand over his head.

“You want them all? Take them!” I scream, slamming my palm on the table. “But give me Sam.”

“Not until that fucker is dead,” Bastion barks. “Let’s go.”

“Go?” I eye him incredulously, breathing deep to lambaste him when he chuckles.

“Yes, you’re coming with me.”

Seriously? I can’t help but eye the plastic knife again, my jaw ticking. Who does he think he is?

Exhaling heavily, for patience I don’t fucking have, I say, “Where?”

“To my fucking empire,” he bellows, spreading his arms wide.

Glancing around, I try to suss out what the hell he’s talking about, but all I see are matching troubled stares.

Does it matter? I can’t go anywhere with Bastion. I’ve got shit to do, and he most definitely would get in my way.

Shaking my head, I say. “Why?”

“Because you’re going to bring every last fucker to me.”

“Again, why?”

Grabbing my chin, he leans into my face and says, “Because I said so.”

Okay. Arrogant ass.

“So, I’m the bait?” I raise a brow, but he merely nods.

Bristling, I shake my head as he growls, “Yes, and if you ever want to see that kid again, I suggest you figure out how to lure them all in.”

That’s all I get before he’s pulling me to the door. Alice refuses to meet my bitter gaze, and Rain watches me go with a sad smile.

Assholes. Now I’m deeper into this shit than I was, and Sam . . . fuck.

A tricked-out SUV pulls up before us, and wide-eyed, I watch as Bastion waves his arm for me to get inside. Once we’re in, some goon with steely eyes joins a second in the front.
