I pinched my eyes shut, trying to halt the dizziness. “I’m good. Just clumsy.”
I took a deep breath and then another step. If I could just get to the bathroom. I staggered. It felt like the floor was moving under my bare feet.
“Dani.” I heard Tanner call my name, but it was soft, almost like it was in the distance.
I kept trudging forward, but as I lifted my hand to reach for the door frame the dizziness won over. I felt my body falling. I couldn’t see to catch myself and before I realized what happened, it was just like being in that car again. Total darkness.
Chapter 29
Travis
we all sat in our usual booth. A beer in hand when the front doors busted open. FBI, and DEA jackets swarmed the club, but we never flinched. Guns were raised and when a tall man, maybe early forties with a flat top stormed up to our table we wore nothing but a smile.
“Evening. Welcome to Lace.” Maverick lifted his beer.
“Hands where I can see them. Everyone up now!” He shouted as two more officers came up behind him with guns drawn.
We did as we were told.
“Over there. Hands against the wall!” He grabbed me by my collar and forcefully guided me to wall.
It took everything I had not to clock this motherfucker. I glanced around at the club girls who were frantic and scurrying around the room. Ivan came from the back with his hands up demanding to know what was going on. Maverick was next to me. He glanced over and mouthed ‘we good?’ I nodded yes as a pair of hands patted me down.
“Back room now. I want every inch of this place checked.” The man ordered.
He must be in charge. He kept barking at everyone and of course, didn’t do shit while his minions ran around trashing the club. They had the girls lined up against the other wall in the same position as we were as all the lights were turned on.
“This is fucking bullshit,” Romeo growled from my other side.
“They have nothing,” I reminded him.
The regular customers were escorted out and all that remained were us and employees. We stood that way for a good thirty minutes before a couple of officers came from the back hallway.
“Timmons it’s all clear.” One said to the boss man.
“What? You sure?” He asked.
“Sure. We searched every inch. Nothing,” he confirmed.
I couldn’t hold back my small smirk at the exchange.
“Hands down,” Timmons barked. He slowly stepped up to Maverick. “Tread carefully LeBlanc. We’re watching you.” Then he walked backwards until he turned to head for the doors. “Let’s go!” He called out.
Maverick waved a hand in the air. “Come back anytime.”
We chuckled as they exited the building with a look of disappointment.
“Fuck, that was close,” Widow breathed out.
“No shit,” I added.
We had found a couple of duffle bags in Ivan’s office, so we stuffed them as full as we could. Me, Widow, and Tank took off with the drugs while the rest stayed back, making sure everything went smooth and looked like business as usual.
After everything calmed down, Maverick ordered the lights to be turned back off and the girls to resume their shifts. We still had a couple of hours until closing.
Maverick took a drink of his beer. “So, where’d you end up stashing forty kilos of cocaine on a whim?”
I caught eyes with Widow and Tank, then Widow shook his head.
