I pulled my bike right up under the awning of the emergency room exit. The security guard who was about to scold me shut up really quick when I gave him my “fuck off” death glare. I could hear my brothers rumbling in behind me as I stormed through the sliding glass doors. The older lady at the counter widens her eyes when she sees me coming.
“Daniella LeBlanc. Where is she?” I reach up to place both hands on the counter as I take a deep breath.
“I uhh…. let me check sir,” she stutters as her glasses slip down on her nose.
She types a few words into the computer in front of her when I hear my name being called.
“Travis!”
I turn to see Tanner coming down the hallway with puffy eyes.
“What happened?” I ask as I leave the lady at the counter and meet her halfway.
“I don’t know…she just collapsed,” she sobs.
The sound of boots pounding on the tile floor lets me know my brothers are here. Maverick comes up beside us, taking Tanner in his arms as he soothes her cries.
“Where is she?” I ask. My hands are fidgeting and I’m anxious. I need to get to her.
“She was rushed in the back; they are running tests. We don’t know anything yet.” Tanner sniffs.
“I want to see her.” It came out a little gruffer than I intended.
“Dom, just be calm,” Maverick started.
“Would you be fucking calm?” I snapped.
Widow stepped up next to me. “Let’s get to Gerry and see what we can find out.”
I nodded and followed Tanner as she started down the hallway toward the waiting area.
My knee bounced as I sat on one of the most uncomfortable fucking chairs I’ve ever sat on in my life. It had only been an hour, but I was about ready to blow. We knew nothing. Romeo came through the door with a serious expression. I knew he had information.
“Tell me now,” I barked.
“I was able to convince one of the nurses to let me check her chart,” he said with a sly grin.
Another words, he probably had her bent over a desk, so he could read her file over her shoulder.
Gerry and Tanner stood up and clasped hands as he cleared his throat.
“I don’t know what it all means, but she…...it’s sepsis.”
“Sepsis!” Gerry cried.
“What the fuck is that?” I growled.
“My baby…. oh my God.” Gerry’s legs gave, but Maverick caught her.
“Mom she’s going to be okay. We don’t know everything yet,” he soothed.
Romeo touched my shoulder. “All I know is it’s an infection.”
“How serious?”
“All the nurse said was is it could be….” he trailed off.
“It could be what Romeo?” I urged.
