His eyes darted between mine and Maverick. “Life threatening.”

I cursed under my breath and spun around. I couldn’t breathe, or think. My thoughts jumbled and my vision blurred. I’m not losing her.

“Dom.” I heard my name, but I didn’t answer. I sat down in a chair and rested my forearms against my knees.

“Dom,” I heard again.

When I glanced up a man in a white coat stood in the doorway. I automatically shot up from my seat. “How is she? I need to see her.”

“We ran some tests and thankfully we caught it early. She’s had a kidney infection for a while and without treatment they can turn very dangerous, spreading the infection to other areas of the body.”

“She’s been sick. She’s been nauseas and has had pain in her stomach.” Tanner added as she wiped a tear with a tissue.

“Those can be symptoms. Nausea, vomiting, even fever and chills. Like I stated, luckily, we caught it when we did. If she would have gone another day or two, I’m not sure we would have been able to stop the infection.”

“So, she’s stable?” Gerry asks.

“Yes, she’s stable. We are giving her antibiotics and she’s on oxygen at the moment. We will keep her here until we run the course of the antibiotics and then check to make sure there has been no organ damage.”

“When can I see her?” I asked with urgency.

“She is in the ICU unit right now which is limited to family only.” He lowered his clipboard. “Only two in at a time, but you can see her now.”

“We are all her family,” Tanner said quietly.

The doctor surveyed the room full of bikers. Me and Maverick stood with Gerry and Tanner. Behind us was Romeo, Widow, Tank, Knuckles, Ember, Boston, Dice, Skittles, Buck, Preach and Maxine. Even Rico was here. The doctor didn’t even miss a beat as he spoke. “She’s a lucky girl.”

Chapter 31

Daniella

I squirmed, trying to get comfortable. Something in my nose felt funny, so I swatted at whatever it was. Murmured voices filtered around me and I tried to peek open my eyes. A bright light made me flinch and I groaned.

“Dani, don’t move your hands.” It was mom. I felt her soft touch on my arm.

“Where am I?” I asked hoarsely.

The room seemed white, which was totally opposite from Maverick’s room that I was in last.

“You’re at the hospital sweetheart.” Her hand touched my forehead and my eyes finally adjusted to the room.

“Hospital?”

“Yes…you passed out and we brought you here.”

I move my eyes to the other side of my bed. Travis sat in a chair by the monitor with his ankle crossed over his knee and a hand resting on his chin as he watched me.

“Hey,” I whispered.

He didn’t say anything, so I swung my gaze back to my mom. “What’s wrong with me?”

She reached for my hand. “It was an infection. You had a kidney infection that was left untreated and it spread. They caught it in time though.”

I noticed the IV in the crook of my elbow and reached up to feel what I now knew to be oxygen tubes in my nose.

“I didn’t know you were sick, sweetheart.” My mom’s face looked pained as she said it. Like she should have noticed.

“Mom I’m fine,” I assured her.
