“Emily?”

“Yes,” I said, coming back to the moment. “I was planning to grab some on my way out. That color is beautiful.”

“It’s a special hybrid from our farm. The orange is deeper, less pink, but not yellow leaning either. We’re proud of this one.”

He smiled. Holy hotness, he had the dimples too. Did all the men in this town have toe-curling, panty-melting, dimple-filled smiles? I didn’t remember this from my summers here. Though, it had been our chef doing the shopping at the farmers’ market.

Lucas appeared next to me, wiggling his eyebrows. “I’ve got what you need right here.” His arms cradled a bunch of deep red beets and a handful of kale. Finn’s jaw clenched as he failed to resist rolling his eyes.

I stifled a laugh before I could help myself. “So smooth. I just don’t understand why I’m not attracted to you.” Heavy on the sarcasm, I gave him a playful punch in the arm.

“Emily, you wound me.” Lucas’s eyebrows rose in mock horror.

Finn’s smile flashed again, and my tongue came out to wet my bottom lip. I wanted to lick those dimples. His eyes blazed again like the night at the bar, and I could swear he looked at my mouth.

“I’ll take the beets and kale and those tulips too,” I said. “Let’s see how much I can carry.”

“Put all that in this box, Luc. We’ll make these your gift with purchase,” Finn said, his voice a little less growly.

“Oh, thank you.” I reached to take the box and jostled my other bags. Finn held the box with one firm grip and grabbed my forearm with his other hand. I felt a jolt, and then warmth flowed up my arm as he continued to hold me. He sucked in a quick breath. Had he felt that too?

What the hell was that?It was like a little shock that went straight to my dick. She leaned in. Damn, she smelled good, like lemon and flowers. Her honey-blonde hair was loose around her shoulders today, and I wanted to run my fingers through it. My dick twitched.

“Lucas … where are the flower buckets I asked for? I’m waiting,” Mom called.

Still holding on to Emily’s arm and the box, I nodded to Luc. “I got this.”

“Coming,” Lucas shouted back toward Mom. “I’ll see you next time, Emily.” He winked and walked away with a backward glance. He could keep walking.

“Here, why don’t you let me hold the box.” Adjusting my grip, I glanced at her ring finger. No ring and no outline either. Old habits.

“Thank you. I’ll pay, and then I can take it back, hopefully without dumping it.”

“It’s okay. I got it.”

I followed her toward the register at the back of our booth. She put down her other bags and sifted her long fingers through a small leather purse hanging across her body. Those fingers would look so good wrapped around my dick, stroking me. Wait. Shit. I needed to get it together. My mom was ten feet away. I shook my head and looked around for a distraction.

Emily had a lot of bags. “Do you have more shopping to do?” I asked as she returned.

With a quick laugh, she said, “No, I think this is all I can carry. I planned to get some ice cream, but I need to make a run to my car first.”

I held the box and grabbed a couple more bags from the ground. “Let me help you. I think we can carry everything and swing by the ice cream stand on our way out.”

“Thank you.” Her eyes sparkled, and a pink blush lit her cheeks. She looked over her shoulder at me as we weaved through the booth. “Can I buy you some ice cream? For your trouble?”

You bet your sweet ass. And it was an exceptionally sweet ass. Damn it. “That sounds great.”

The Island Dairy line was short, so we didn’t talk about more than flavors. Blackberry for me, always, and chocolate-covered strawberry for her. We headed to her car, balancing our loads along with our cones which were so big they came with little biodegradable spoons.

“So, Finn, do you also work in the city?”

“No, I work here on the farm with my dad. We manage the tulip bulb planting and processing. Mom has the booth. Tess, Luc, and I are volun-told labor today.” I smiled. “Usually, it’s just me, but everyone’s here for Mother’s Day tomorrow. We’reallvolun-told today.”

Her smile didn’t reach her eyes, and I wondered if I’d said something wrong.
