Page 65 of Loving Brooke

Grinning, Logan stepped forward and hugged them both. “Happy for you. I’ll open up another bottle of bubbly.” Charlie followed him out of the room.

“Congratulations,” Blake said. “Life on the ranch is going to be interesting one of these days.”

“Oooh, I’m so happy for you!” Lindsay sang, kissing them both. “Come on, Blake, let’s make breakfast.”

Eleanor was crying openly, tears running down her face. “I’m so, so happy for the two of you.” She first hugged Gavin and then Brooke.

Brooke’s phone rang, and sniffling, she looked around for it. “Where’s my phone?”

Grinning, Gavin picked up the ringing device, then frowned. “This isn’t yours.”

“I now have two phones!” She grinned, grabbing it from him. “It’s Michelle. Sorry, I have to take this.”

With another quick hug, Eleanor left the room.

Gavin sat down on the bed and inhaled deeply. Just a few hours before, he hadn’t been sure what was going to happen. Last night, he’d had a plan. He was going to talk to Brooke, tell her how he felt about her and...

“Babe?” Brooke turned to look at him, taking her phone from her ear. There was a slight frown between her eyes. “Michelle says there is a very persistent client who wants the two paintings hanging behind the podium—you know the ones I’m talking about?”

Nodding, he got up and walked toward her. “Don’t you want to sell them?”

“I thought no, but now...” She lifted the phone to her ear again. “Okay, Michelle, your client can have it.”

While she finished the call, Gavin pulled her closer. He knew exactly where those two paintings would hang.

“I have to tell Connor about the baby,” Brooke said.

“Let’s tell him together?”

Just then the door opened, and Eleanor ushered Connor into the room. “He was asking for his mom.”

Brooke patted the bed. “Come and sit, Connor. Gavin and I have something we want to tell you.”

“Did I do something wrong?”

“No, sweetie, you haven’t done anything wrong.” Brooke smiled. “How would you feel about a baby brother or sister?”

Connor’s eyes widened. “Does that mean I get another d?”

But Brooke quickly put a hand over his mouth. “It means you’ll be an older brother.”

“Breakfast’s ready!” Charlie called.

Brooke got up, smiling. “I think I’m hungry. Coming?” She held out her hand to Gavin.

He pulled her close and they walked toward the kitchen, Connor running in front of them. So much was changing so fast, all in a positive direction...yet something wasn’t quite right. He just couldn’t put his finger on what.
