“And then he said he wanted to kiss me.”

“Wait,what?”Mads shouts, beside himself.

I grin, biting on a fingernail.

“And?”they both yell at once.

“And I said, ‘So kiss me.’ And he did.”

My friends swoon, clasping their hands to their chests, grinning from ear to ear.

Rand is the first to speak. “This is the good stuff, Ford. You’re taking these baby steps toward him, and it issoromantic.”

He’s right, of course, but I still feel like an amateur in comparison.

“Didn’t you sleep with Joe, like, his first night here?”

“No.”

I give him a yeah-right look, and he rolls his eyes.

“Fine, things did progress relatively quickly between us, but that doesn’t make what’s going on between you and Luca any less special. I promise you, we’re here for it,” he says, thumbing a gesture between him and Mads.

“Totally here for it,” Mads says, his eyes closed in rapture as he sways with his palms up.

“Did I accidentally walk into a mega-church?”

“Don’t ruin this for me,” he whispers, his eyes still closed, the grin growing on his face. “He took off his gun to dance with you in your kitchen and then kissed you. That’s…yes. Everything.”

I look to Rand for a reasonable response, and all he does is lift a shoulder and then imitate Mads’ worshipful look.

“Oh my God, you two.” I face-palm again, completely mortified. “It was just a kiss. Didn’t mean anything.”

They both snort inelegantly.

“Oh, it absolutely meant something,” Mads says, grinning like a loon as he circles a finger in my direction.

At least his eyes are open again.

“I know it did,” Rand confirms, holding up his phone. “Joe had a conversation with Luca the other day, and…”

He grimaces and pauses, thinking it over.

“And what? And what!” Mads says, yelling for both of us. “You two are killing me with these cliffhangers!”

“And Luca isn’t sleeping with the help the way he used to.”

I snort. “I visited his bar not too long ago. We had a nice conversation, which was completely interrupted by his Friday ‘appointment,’” I say, using air quotes around the word appointment.

Rand shakes his head, looking at his phone. “Mary didn’t know he wasn’t sleeping with them. She was sending them to him like she always does, and he would send them away, making them swear not to tell anyone. He hasn’t slept with anyone in, like, three months.”

My jaw feels loose as my mouth drops open. “Are you serious?”

“Dead serious.” Rand smiles, fidgeting with his fingers. “Joe likes Luca. They’ve become good friends, and he wants his friend to be happy.”

The thought of making Luca happy is just…hoo. Heady stuff.

I bury my face in my hands. “Dammit. I knew I should’ve invited him upstairs.”
