Brushing his hair off his forehead, he nods, standing with me. “I will. And thank Stefano for telling Hopper to give me some space.”
Shaking his hand, I explain, “Luca had to explain boundaries to Hopper. It…didn’t go all that well.”
Liam chuckles. “I bet it didn’t.”
We face each other and hesitate. Finally, I go in for an awkward hug.
“Thank you,” I say, my voice cracking a little.
He returns the hug briefly, then steps back with a nod. I let myself out and walk with Kej back to our new place.
Grayson is waiting for us in the lobby, and the head of security, whose name is Dan, is with him. All three ride with me to Luca’s floor, then continue up to the security floor, pleased smiles all around.
Oh, to be a fly on the wall.
Walking up to Luca’s door, I ring the bell and pull the small kitchen utensil from the shopping bag. I’ve been letting myself in for the last few weeks, but this surprise requires a tiny element of drama. I’m even wearing his favorite lime-green glasses.
“Hop, buddy, we’re not done talking about boundaries with your agent…” Luca’s words die off and are replaced with a broad smile. “You’re not Hop.”
Grinning, I hold up a measuring cup. “Got any sugar?”
He wrinkles his brows. “Sure, baby. Come on in.” I walk past him and am immediately pulled into a possessive, growly kiss. “Did you really come all this way for sugar?”
“What do you mean all this way?” I ask, innocently widening my eyes.
“I’m confused. What do you mean, ‘what do you mean all this way?’”
“I mean, we’re neighbors, silly.”
He opens his mouth to say something, but I have no chill and leap into his arms. “I bought the apartment next door! I bought the apartment next door!”
Let me tell you, shocking a mobster is one of the most fun things you can do. Watching his serious face light up is…yes.I will find ways to continue to do this.
He drags me over to the couch, and we dissolve into a pile of laughter as I climb onto his lap.
“What the fuck! It’s not even on the market.”
“Not yet. Turns out being a billionaire means I had anin,” I say, shimmying my shoulders.
His happy face darkens slightly.
“What’s this pout, Mr. Mobster?” I ask, touching his lips.
“I…I’m glad you’ll be next door, but I gotta be honest. I was hoping you’d come live with me.”
Hah.Played right into my hand.
“So that brings up an important detail.”
“Oh really?” he asks, running his hands up my thighs, around my hips, and back again.
“Yes, really. I figured we’d give it the old Anthony and Mads razzle-dazzle and combine them, maybe extend your dark librarian vibe throughout, with a few of my quirky touches, if you don’t mind. The two together would be very fashionable.”
Luca lies back on the couch, hands behind his head, looking very proud of himself.
“Look at me. I bagged myself a billionaire with a B.”
I crack up. “Oh,nowI’m a billionaire.”
