“You love Vivian?”

“Yes.” He doesn’t hesitate.

She stares at him for a few moments.

“You truthful to my daughter?”

“Yes.”

My mama bobs her head.

“You cheat on Vivian?”

“No, nor would I.” Chase furrows his brows.

My mama pauses then pats his cheeks. “You good boy.” She turns back to my father. Pointing between Chase and my father, she says, “You make nice.”

My father glares at her, and she says in Greek, “Nico, this man loves Vivian. You dated your crazy girls. Don’t be a hypocrite.”

He looks at my mama in shock as I gape at them.

“You think I forgot? Do I need to remind you about your playboy past?”

“Calixta, that is not the same as this,” my father adamantly claims.

My mama snorts. “Is it not?”

My father’s about to say something, and she raises her brow at him, challenging him to argue with her. My father shuts his mouth. He points to the door. “Let’s go across the hall, Chase.”

Chase glances at me, in question, but I motion for him to follow my father.

They leave the room, and my mama pulls me over to the couch. She sits next to me.

“Thank you, Mama,” I say in Greek.

“Vivian, this is serious. How are you going to protect yourself against this woman?”

“Chase is going to get security for all of us tomorrow.”

“That doesn’t guarantee your safety.”

“I’ll be fine with security, Mama.”

“What is this woman capable of?”

“I don’t know, but I’ll have security on me.”

My mama takes a deep breath. “This woman is the reason you couldn’t be with Chase sooner?”

I sigh. “Yes but not in the way you think.”

“Well, what way then?”

“Mama, I don’t want to get into it. It’s between Chase and me. The only thing that matters is that I love him and he loves me. I want you and Páppa to love him, too. He’s a good man, you’ll see.”

She smiles at me. “I already know all this.”

“You do? How?”
