On Saturday, my parents have gone home. Chase and I are sitting in a booth, eating a late lunch, when my phone rings.

I set my fork beside my Cobb salad, “It’s the listing agent for the penthouse,” I tell Chase then answer it.

“Congratulations. Your client’s offer is the one accepted,” Dave Carmen tells me.

I give a victory pump. “That’s great.”

Chase grins.

“The sellers have already moved out of state, so they will close at a different title company. I’ve scheduled your side for Tuesday at noon.”

“Sounds good. Since the sellers will not be there, do you mind if I take my client through the penthouse again for furniture purposes?”

“Sure. You have the code. I’ll let security know to give you full access.”

“Thanks, Dave. See you Tuesday.” I hang up and look at Chase.

His grin widens. “We got it?”

“Yes!”

He gives me a quick peck. “Awesome.”

“Do you want to go through it again?”

“Sure.”

“Are you bringing your furniture from New York or getting new stuff?”

“New. I’m leaving everything except some personal items in New York.”

“You aren’t selling your place?”

“Not at this time.”

My gut flips. I don’t know why it never occurred to me before, but it suddenly does. “Are you keeping it so you can move back after you get things set up here?”

Chase brushes the hair off my face. “No. I’m keeping it for when we visit.”

“When we visit?”

“Yes.”

I scan his eyes.

He tilts his head. “You look like you don’t believe me.”

“It’s a pretty nice place to keep empty. You sure it’s not your plan to move back?”

“Not unless you’re moving with me, and I think your father would kill me if that ever happened, so no, it’s not my plan.”

“My father?”

“He drilled me about whether I was going to sweep you away to New York.”

Heat rises in my face. “He didn’t.”

Chase chuckles. “He did.”
