Page 120 of Committed to You

“I’m with Meredith,” I say as calmly as I can.

“Vivian, where are you?” Panic laces his voice.

“Stop worrying about her,” Meredith screams as her face contorts and gets red.

My insides shake as the gun is flying all over, and I’m afraid her rage alone might set it off.

“Meredith—”

“Chase, listen to Meredith and do as she asks, please.”

“Vivian—”

“Stop saying her name!” Meredith screams at him.

“Okay, I’m sorry. Calm down, Meredith. Where are you?” Chase’s voice levels out.

“I’m going to lay down the ground rules before I tell you,” Meredith says.

“Ground rules?”

“Yes.”

“Okay, Meredith. Whatever you want.”

“You gave my Thursday away. I want Thursday back.”

“Okay. You can have it back. Where are you?”

Meredith grins and puts her face an inch from mine. “See. You don’t mean anything to him. Thursday is my day.”

“You’re right. I’m sorry. You can have Thursday.”

She slaps me hard. “Thursday isn’t yours to give me. Stop acting like it is.”

Tears stream down my cheeks.

“Meredith. What are you doing?” Chase sternly asks.

“Giving her what is owed to her,” Meredith tells him and slaps me again, and I whimper. “She needs to pay for stealing my day.”

“Don’t hurt her,” Chase yells.

“Shut up about her!” Meredith slaps me again, and blood splatters my coat.

I try not to cry, but I can’t stop it. I think she might have broken my nose. Blood is dripping all over my chest, and pain is shooting through my face.

“Meredith, take me off the speaker,” Chase tells her.

Her eyes change from dark to bright. She grabs the phone. “Chase, it’s just us now,” she coos to him and turns away from me.

I don’t know what Chase is saying to her, but her voice turns flirty and happy.

“Okay. I promise you, baby. I’ll wait. But you can’t come with anyone else. If you bring anyone else, I’ll shoot her first then myself.”

My pulse races again. I wholeheartedly believe that she will have no issues shooting us both.

“Driver? But—” She giggles and smirks but never lowers the gun.
