“Okay. Where are you?”

I give him the address.

“Stay put. I’ll text you when we get there.”

“I have to go alone.”

“I’ll be there in five. Just stay calm.”

I hang up and Royce has followed me outside. “You know how to drive, I assume?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Good. You’re going to be my driver.” I fill him in on the phone conversation.

“We should call the police.”

“We can’t. She will kill Vivian. I don’t think she is bluffing.”

“Chase—”

I put my hand up. “Stop. I don’t want to hear it. You can call the cops once I’m inside but not until then. There is no way I’m going to risk Vivian being shot.”

Noah races into the lobby. “Let’s go.”

“You can’t go.”

“I’ll lie down in the back of the car or hide in the trunk. I don’t care, but you aren’t going alone. Come on. We don’t have time to waste discussing this.”

“Fine. But Royce is driving.”

Noah looks at him. “Why aren’t you with Vivian?”

“We don’t have time. I’ll tell you in the car. Let’s go.”

The three of us race out to the car, and Noah’s driver gets out. I give the address Meredith has texted to Royce to put into the GPS.

“What are you going to do once you get there?” Noah asks.

I pull at my hair. “I don’t know. Meredith thinks I’m coming to watch her hurt Vivian.”

Noah gapes. “What?”

“It sounded like she was hitting her, and it was the only way I could get her to promise me she would stop.”

Noah scans my eyes.

“What?”

“We need to call the police,” he tries again.

“Not until I’m inside. Once I’m inside, you can call the cops, but I need to make sure I’m inside first. Otherwise, Meredith will kill Vivian and then herself.”

“Fuck sake,” Noah mumbles.

I blink back tears and look away for a moment. She better not be laying a finger on Vivian.

I pick up my phone.
