He stepped forward, kissed the top of my head, and said, “Good night, Vivian. Sweet dreams.”

I sneeze again and sit up in bed. Looking at the nightstand, I don’t see any tissues, so I go into the bathroom and blow my nose. My throat is faintly sore, so I shower, get ready then go into the kitchen and gargle some salt water then rinse the sink.

“Morning,” he says in my ear, and I about jump.

When did he come in?

Chase laughs, and I turn around. He’s so close to me I can smell his sexy scent, even though my nose is pretty stuffed.

“Did you sleep well?” he asks.

“Great. Your bed’s comfy. Thanks.”

He parts his lips like he’s going to say something but stops.

I wait.

He finally says, “We need to leave soon if we’re going to get there for visiting hours.”

“Okay. Let me grab my purse.”

“You want some coffee to go?”

“Sure. That would be great.”

“Did you get any breakfast?”

I shake my head. “I’m not hungry though.”

“You sure? I can make you something.”

“That’s nice of you to offer, but I’m okay.”

“How do you take your coffee?”

“Cream and sugar.”

“On it.”

“Thanks.”

He winks, and I leave as Jamison is coming into the kitchen.

We all leave for the hospital shortly and stay until visiting hours are over. Throughout the day, I’m sneezing and clearing my sore throat. When we get into the car, Jamison says, “I think it’s time to hit the town and show these ladies the real New York.”

I sneeze.

Chase hands me a wad of tissues from his pocket.

“Stocking up?”

“I think you’re coming down with a cold. You’ve been sneezing all day. Your throat hurt?”

He noticed that I’m not feeling well and grabbed tissues for the car ride home?

I wipe my nose and nod. My eyes are watering, and I feel like there’s a lump in my throat.

Chase puts his hand on my forehead then moves the backside of his hand to my cheek “You’re warm.”
