“Thank you.” I step back out of his embrace.

His face falls, but he quickly recovers. “Want a glass of wine?”

“Sure. I’m going to use the restroom.”

“You know where everything is at. I’ll meet you in the living room.”

I head for the restroom. I don’t need to go, but I need to give myself another pep talk.

His clean earthy scent has been flaring in my nostrils all night, and the comfort of his arms is tempting me. I know if I allow myself the pleasure of having him, he’ll let me.

But then you’ll be one of his girls.

Keep your distance.

I splash cold water on my face and go sit on the couch. He hands me a glass of wine, hits a button on his phone, and soft indie music fills the air down right next to me.

“How’s real estate in Chicago?”

“Great.”

“How’s your business?”

“Fine. I’m bummed I didn’t get to see you when I was in Chicago.” His blue eyes stare into mine.

A week after Quinn and I left to go back to Chicago, Jamison and Chase made a surprise visit. Jamison saw Quinn, but when Chase called me, I already had a date. I was tempted to cancel it but reminded myself that he was not someone looking for anything besides a good time.

But I can’t lie to him. “I was bummed, too.”

“How did your date go?”

I shrug. “It was fine.”

“Are you still seeing him?”

“No. We only went out a few times.”

“Are you seeing someone now?”

I tilt my head. “No.”Why is he asking me this?I decide to flip the tables on him. “How many girls are you seeing right now?”

He softly laughs and shrugs. “I don’t know.”

“You don’t know?” I cry out.

He laughs harder. “Don’t get all riled up. I’m teasing. I wouldn’t say I’m seeing anyone.”

“You’re not sleeping with anyone?”

“Well, no one is coming over tonight if that is what you are asking me.” His fingers graze my arm.

“What you said makes no sense.”

“How’s that?”

“What do you mean by, ‘I wouldn’t say I’m seeing anyone.’”

He shrugs. “I’m not dating anyone.”
