I sarcastically laugh. “No, you’re just fucking them.”

Chase grins. “Do you have something against sex?”

I laugh. “No, not at all.”

He leans into my ear. “Then don’t knock what I do until you try it.”

His warm breath is humming against my skin, and I turn my head into him. Our lips are inches apart, and my pulse spikes.

“I’m never going to be one of your girls,” I tell him.

“I don’t want you to be one of my girls,” he replies.

I furrow my brow at him. “No?”

He grins. “No. I just want you to be Vivian.”

I roll my eyes and lean away from him, laughing.

“What are you laughing at?”

“Does that line actually work?”

“What line?”

“Oh, please,” I say and, needing some distance from him, I walk over to the window to stare out at the view of Manhattan.

I’m not there very long before he stands behind me, wraps his arms around my waist, and says, “You know what I missed about you not being here?”

I close my eyes. I should push him away, but instead, I sink into him. “What’s that?”

“Lots of things.”

I remind myself to breathe.

“I missed your laughter. And your smile. And just being able to talk to you. I think we get each other, don’t you?”

It’s true. I may not agree with Chase’s relationship decisions, but we do get each other. We can talk about pretty much anything. “I missed it, too,” I quietly say.

He kisses the top of my head and points to the right. “Do you see that building with the red sign on it?”

“Yes.”

“I was walking around and looking at buildings a few days ago, and I thought, ‘I wonder what Vivian would think of this gem.’ It’s got qualities that most people don’t see, but I bet you would see them.”

Chase and my love for properties are one of the things we instantly connected over. “What is special about it?”

“I think I should take you there tomorrow, and you tell me if you think anything is special about it.”

“Okay.”

He points to the left. “See that building over there. It’s a bit shorter than the other ones.”

“Yes.”

“I just bought that.”

“The entire building?”
