I blink in confusion. “Piper, where is this conversation going? I’m about to run over to Vivian’s before you give me a heart attack.”
Noah laughs behind me.
I turn to him and say, “Do you think you could help me out here?”
“Nope. I warned you and Jamison both not to screw with Piper’s friends. This is out of my control.”
I’m about to tell him to grab his set of balls, but I realize I might get my eyes cut out by Piper.
Piper grabs my chin and pulls it, so I’m looking at her. “Focus, Chase.”
I take a big breath. “Can you please keep the questions to one at a time?”
“What does make it right mean?”
I hold my hands in the air. “I’m going to make it right.”
“You can’t explain a question with the same words. Spell it out, Chase.” Piper’s arms are folded over her chest, and she’s tapping her foot.
“I’m not going to hurt her anymore.”
“How?”
“I’ve told almost every girl I’ve ever been friends with benefits with that I’m done. There’s only one left, and I haven’t told her yet because her mom died, but when she’s back, I will.”
“So, you aren’t going to mess around with other girls anymore?”
“No. I only want to be with Vivian.”
“And you’re going to commit to her?”
“Yes, if she’ll let me.”
“No more letting her down?”
“God, I hope not.”
“You hope?” Piper cries out.
Noah covers his mouth with his hand.
“Piper, can you stop interrogating me, please? I love Vivian. I don’t want to hurt her. It’s killing me that I hurt her. I only want to be with her. I’m doing everything I can to change the situation so I can be the man she deserves. I’m not sure what else I can tell you. Oh, there is one more thing I can tell you.”
“What’s that?”
“I’m the world’s biggest idiot.”
Piper pats my shoulder. “That you are, Chase. That you are.”
I tilt my head at her. “Are you going to help me now or not?”
Piper sits down next to me. “Yes. But don’t screw this up.”
“I’ll try—” I stop. “I won’t.”
Piper smiles. “Good.”
“Is she taking a date to her awards gala?”
