“But how did you even know?”
“Jamison told me on the plane about your award.”
I wrack my brain. “You’ve known since Sunday?”
“Yes. I booked the plane ticket as soon as I landed.”
“You did?”
“I flew in last night.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“You told me we would talk on Friday and not until then. I’m hoping you won’t hold it against me that it’s not Friday and will let me take you tonight?”
I smile at him. “Yes.”
Chase lets out a breath. “Good.” He steps forward and wraps his arms around me again. “I have something to tell you.”
“What?” My heart is thumping.
“We will still talk tomorrow, but I’m making it right.”
I’m going to start crying again if I open my mouth. I still don’t understand.
“In case you’re wondering what that means, let me be clear. The only person I want is you. No one else, just you.”
Fresh tears spill down my cheeks.
He looks nervously into my eyes. “Do you still want me?”
“You’re all I want.”
Relief floods his face. “So I haven’t lost you?”
“No.” I sniffle.
“Thank you.” He cups my face and kisses me slowly as if savoring me, different from his other kisses, yet fire still burns through my body.
I lace my fingers in his hair, losing myself in him in an entirely new way.
When he pulls back, he says, “I’m really proud of you.”
It hits me that he wasn’t talking in the email about being a big client for me. He was referring to my award.
“I can’t believe you’re here.”
“I am, and I’m not letting you out of my sight.” He sets me away from him. “We better get going. I don’t want to get yelled at all night from Piper about not arriving on time. I’ve finally made some progress with her.”
I laugh. “You did?”
“Yeah. I’ll tell you about it later.”

Vivianand I get into the car. The divider window is up. I put my arm around her and pull her into me. There are so many things I want to tell her, but this is her night, and her success is my only focus.
