He guides me into the lobby and into the elevator. His arm is around my waist. We are the only people in the lift, and when I tip my face up, and he bends down and kisses me, stirring so much heat in my body, I moan into his mouth.

His erection hardens, and I turn further into him. The elevator stops, and the doors open. “We have to get out,” he murmurs.

“What?” I whisper and open my eyes. “Oh.”

I spin and let him lead me to my apartment. Grabbing the keys out of my clutch, I unlock the door, walk in, and am surprised when I see him still standing in the hall.

“Come in,” I tell him.

He shakes his head.

I step back into the hall and reach for his hand. “Don’t be silly, stay with me.”

“I don’t want to ever make you feel like that again. So as much as I want to come in and stay with you, I’m not. Until I make everything right, I’m not putting you in any positions.”

“Maybe I want you to put me in some positions,” I tease.

He laughs then gets serious again. “You know what I’m talking about.”

“Chase, you’ve never dated her, right?”

“That’s right.”

“You were just friends with benefits?”

“Yes.”

“You haven’t slept with her in months?”

“Or anyone else.”

“You’re going to talk to her when you get back?”

“Yes.”

“Then you’ve made it right.”

He wraps his arms around my waist. “If I come in, then I’m going back on my word to you, and I won’t do that. So I’m going to kiss you and say good night.”

“But—”

His lips cut my words off as every cell in my body lights up. He kisses me, the most intense, spectacular kiss I’ve ever experienced, making my lower body throb and stealing all my breath. I’m slightly dizzy when he pulls away, and I’m glad he’s holding me so tight, or I might fall.

His blue eyes, full of lust and desire, stare into mine. He quietly says, “I’m going to go now. Thank you for letting me take you to your event. You’re honestly the most stunning woman I’ve ever laid eyes on. I’ll see you tomorrow morning?”

He’s serious about this. Ugh!

I slowly nod. “Okay.”

He pecks me on the lips one more time. “Go inside and lock your door.”

I roll my eyes at him.

“Do it.” He releases me from his arms, and I feel empty.

Reluctantly, I walk in, turn, and lock the door and lean against it. When my heartbeat returns to normal, I go into my bedroom. The emptiness I feel without him grows, and I know that I need to be with him tonight.

As I sit on my bed, the last seven months race through my mind. Chase is finally showing me the man I wanted him to be. I think of the time he got me into his bed, and the time he pushed his way into mine. I decide tonight I’m going to do the pushing if that is what it takes. At the very least, I’m going to be sleeping in his arms.
