I keep my face very serious. “I don’t know. I don’t recall you asking me to be your girlfriend.”
His face flushes. “I’m sorry. Was I supposed to do that?”
I bite my lip, trying not to smile but fail.
“What’s so funny?”
“I’m only teasing you.”
He steps forward and puts his arms around my waist. “Funny.”
“I thought it was.”
“Glad I could amuse you.”
“You looked so panicky,” I tell him.
He leans down to my lips. “You like to tease me?”
“Maybe.”
The elevator opens, and he pecks me quickly on the lips, grabs my hand, and steps out.
He pulls me through the front door, and we both stop. The entire penthouse has an incredible view of Chicago. Both the city and lake can be seen, and it’s updated in coastal decor, playing off the lake, but also unlike what you would typically see in Chicago.
I know that Chase wants my opinion, but the real estate agent in me tries to maintain my composure. This isn’t my place, and he’s buying it, so I don’t want to sway him toward anything.
“This view is incredible,” he gushes.
“You’re going to be hard-pressed to find something this expansive. The wrap view with unobstructed views is rare. They’ve recently remodeled it, but if it isn’t your style, you could change it. Cosmetically speaking, it wouldn’t be a significant renovation. Coastal isn’t something you normally see in Chicago.”
Chase glances around. “I think it looks nice.”
“It’s clean and fresh. It works well with the lake.”
“It’s relaxing.”
“Yes, I agree.”
Chase grabs my hand and pulls me toward the couch. He sits down and pulls me onto his lap.
Laughing, I ask, “What are you doing?”
Leaning in, he kisses me, running his hands through my hair then moving his lips down my neck.
“What are you doing?” I repeat in a breathy voice.
“Seeing what it’s like to make out with you here.”
“What’s it like?” I whisper.
“Fucking awesome.”
I laugh, and he kisses me again on the lips. When he pulls back, he says, “I like it. Do you like it?”
“Making out with you or the penthouse?”
“Both.”
