He pauses for a moment. “Fine. In the meantime, you’d better keep my daughter safe from this crazy woman. Please put Vivian back on the phone.”

“Yes, sir.” I hand the phone back to Vivian.

Shit, shit, shit! This is not the relationship I wanted with Vivian’s father. Meredith is not only threatening Vivian, but she’s also trying to destroy my relationship with her and her parents.

How the hell did I ever touch that woman much less have sex with her?

Vivian starts to talk with her father in Greek. I don’t know what she is saying, but her words are passionate.

“Don’t argue with him,” I tell her.

She gives a little headshake.

“Don’t.” Vivian is close to her parents, and they adore her. I don’t want her relationship with them strained.

She closes her eyes, and her voice gets softer. They talk for several more minutes, and I hear my name a few times in the conversation. When she hangs up, she turns to me.

“I’m so sorry,” I say.

“It’s not your fault.”

“It is. My actions caused all this.” I curse myself for my past and ever sleeping with Meredith.

“Chase, Meredith is crazy. I’m sorry about my father.”

“Your father loves you. He didn’t do anything wrong.”

“He doesn’t have a right to grill you like that.”

“He’s your father. He has every right to grill me on anything he wants when it comes to you, never mind when anyone attached to me is calling him.”

“Meredith is trying to do anything she can to break us up.”

“Sounds like it. I can’t believe she called your parents. I’m so sorry.”

Vivian wraps her arms around me. “It’s not your fault. She is unstable.”

I look up at the ceiling, cursing myself again.

Vivian releases me and scoops my phone out of my pocket.

“What are you doing?”

“I’m going to text my father the number to your room in case he needs to get hold of us, but we are turning our phones off. There is nothing we can do about this until tomorrow. I’m not letting Meredith ruin our night. Let’s forget about it.”

She’s right, but until this gets solved, there is no way I’m going to be able to forget about it.

Vivian

Páppa has never givenme such a harsh warning before about anyone I have dated.

“Vivian, you are a good girl. Chase sounds like a womanizer. You do not need that in your life.”

I switch into Greek. “Páppa, Chase is not a womanizer. You are making assumptions based on this woman’s lies.”

“I want you with an honest man, Vivian. You deserve honesty, not lies.”
