“I love you, too. Have a safe flight.”

I knock on the window for Chase to get out, give Quinn one more hug, and we go inside the airport.

When I leave Chicago, I’m feeling the most optimistic I’ve felt about us in months.

And it’s clear to me what I need to do to help Quinn feel comfortable moving to New York. And I plan on getting her the best ring that money can buy so she sees I’m 100 percent committed to her.

“You look amazing,”Jamison says, zipping the back of my dress up and brushing his lips on my neck.

I’m wearing an off-the-shoulder, long-sleeved, shimmery gold ball gown. It hugs my body and shows off every curve I have. My long hair is pulled up in a loose bun, and a few loose curls frame my face.

“I’m not letting you out of my sight all night,” he murmurs in the curve of my neck.

I straighten his gold bowtie. “You don’t disappoint, either.” Jamison’s tux is the perfect accessory for his rock-hard body.

He dips down and gently kisses me. “We should get going.”

I grab my gold clutch, and he escorts me out the door. When we get to the lobby, a private car with driver is waiting for us. Once we’re inside, he puts his arm around me, and I lean back into the warm familiarity of his body.

It’s been a stressful week. Charlotte is recovering, but my boss is no longer nicknamed Half Dick by the office staff. Nope, he’s Full Dick now. And that means my work life is worse than ever, and I’ve put in twelve-hour days the last three workdays.

Jamison hasn’t pressured me to move to New York during any of our conversations this week, which I’m relieved about. With everything going on at work, we’ve hardly been able to talk much anyway, but when we have, he hasn’t brought it up.

For the first time since finding out about his secret marriage, we both seem relaxed. It feels like how things were before I knew about Valeria and him.

We are almost to the gala when Jamison’s phone rings. He looks at it. “Sorry, doll. I have to take this.”

What is so important that it can’t wait?

“Hey, V. I’m almost to the gala with Quinn.”

He told Valeria about the gala?I know Jamison and Valeria only have a friendship, but a feeling I don’t experience very often fills me. It’s jealousy.

She has his lifetime promise. Does she need to take his attention on my night, too?

“I can meet up tomorrow. Just text me the time. I don’t have any plans for the day.”

No plans? I took the day off work to spend time with him, and he knows it. And what is Valeria doing in Chicago?

“All right. Safe travels. See you tomorrow.” Jamison hangs up.

I’m fidgeting with my fingers, twisting and pulling on them, giving myself a pep talk not to let this ruin our night.

Jamison grabs my hands. “You okay, doll?”

I force a smile. “Perfect. What’s going on?”

“Valeria and Cindy are in Chicago. Cindy’s a photographer, and there is a shoot she’s working. They want to meet up with us tomorrow.”

My gut drops.Am I supposed to be friends with your wife now? While I like Valeria, I have no desire to have it shoved in my face.

“Quinn, is that all right?”

Don’t ruin the evening.
