Her brown eyes are blazing into mine, and I can no longer keep this to myself. “We were together.”

“Yes, we all figured that.”

I take a shaky breath.

“It started in New York?”

“It did.”

“What did he do to you?”

What did he do to me? Made me fall in love with him, be the most incredible man I’ve ever been with, and fail to tell me what he sees as just a small detail in his life that he thinks doesn’t affect us.

But you found out a while back, and you still didn’t put a stop to it.

I close my eyes and then open them. Piper is still waiting for me to answer her.

Don’t tell her. She’ll cut his balls off before we even leave the hospital.

“Nothing. It’s just not going to work out,” I finally say.

“We aren’t leaving this bathroom until you tell me.”

I’m not getting out of this.

“Okay. Fine. I’ll tell you, but you can’t go all apeshit crazy.”

She squints. “Why would I do that?”

I tilt my head. “Do you really have to ask me that?”

“Fine. I promise I won’t go berserk. Now tell me what is going on.”

The door opens, and Charlotte walks in. “Didn’t know we were having a meeting. Where’s my invite?” she teases. “Visiting hours are over, and Chase is stable. The guys are figuring out the home healthcare situation, and then we can all go home.”

“That’s good,” I say.

Charlotte gazes between our faces. “What’s going on?”

Before I can stop her, Piper says, “Quinn is finally going to tell us what is going on between her and Jamison.”

“Nothing is going on,” I blurt out.

“Now it isn’t. But it was, and you were just about to tell me why you both look like sad puppy dogs,” Piper says.

Charlotte puts her hand on my arm. “Quinn, tell us what is going on.”

“We were together,” I tell her.

“Yes, we all can see that. Why aren’t you now?”

Heat rises to my face. This is so embarrassing. It sounds so horrible.

Because it is horrible...it’s not right.

Charlotte and Piper are waiting for me to tell them, and there is no way out.

“I promised I wouldn’t tell anyone.”
