More secrets. So your wife can know, but I can’t?

“Of course, stupid girl, you’re the mistress,” I hear my mother’s voice say.

I look away.

“Hey,” Jamison says sternly. “This is for your safety. You have to trust me on this.”

“Trust you?”

“Yes. Trust me.”

“Jamison?” a familiar voice says.

“You’ve gotta be kidding me,” my brother’s voice rings in my ears.

My gut drops.

Jamison turns, and I look up. Steven, and his friend Matt, who I dated for two months and was the last guy I slept with before Jamison, are standing in front of our table. Matt works with my brother, and Steven kept telling me to go out with him. I was fresh out of a long-term relationship and feeling lonely, so I did. The only person I regret sleeping with is him. My brother was not happy when I broke up with Matt.

“Matt. What are you doing here?” Jamison clenches his jaw.

“I live here. What are you doing here?” Matt asks.

My brother glares at us as Jamison doesn’t flinch. “I’m having lunch with my girlfriend. Steven, how are you?”

My brother takes a deep breath.

“You and Quinn are together?” Matt asks.

“Yes, we are. Do you two know each other?” Jamison looks at me, and I cringe.

“Yes. How do you two know each other?” I point between Jamison and Matt.

Jamison shifts in his seat. “Matt used to hang out with Chase, Noah, Xander, and I.”

My mouth hangs open.Matt is the one who slept with Chase’s girlfriend?

“We dated, didn’t we, Quinn.” Matt gives me a cocky stare.

Heat rushes to my cheeks, and Jamison looks at me then quickly back to Matt and Steven.

My brother points between Jamison and Matt. “You two are friends?”

“Used to be are the keywords,” Jamison says.

Matt laughs softly. “Still backing your boy without knowing the full story, huh?”

Jamison glares. “I don’t need to know that story.”

“I would think that you of all people would understand the value of others knowing the full story before passing judgments. Have you spoken to Valeria lately?”

Jamison’s face reddens. “Don’t you speak her name.”

“Who’s Valeria? Why are you getting upset about another woman when my sister is sitting next to you?” My brother speaks up.

“Steven, stay out of this,” I cry out.

“Steven, now’s not the time,” Jamison says.
