The door buzzes.
“Who’s that?” Jamison asks Quinn.
She shrugs. “No idea.”
He gets up and hits the intercom. “Hello.”
“Jamison, it’s Beth. Can you let me up?”
Quinn pushes Jamison aside. “Mom, if you’re here to convince me to forget about my text, I’m not interested.”
“Let me up,” she pleas.
Jamison hits the button.
“What are you doing?” Quinn cries out.
“It’s your mom. You two are both miserable when you’re all fighting. Hear her out.”
Quinn glares at him.
Beth is quickly in the apartment. “Hi.”
Jamison kisses her on the cheek. “Hey, Beth.”
I offer her a smile. “Hi, Beth.”
“Hi.” She turns to Quinn. “How was the honeymoon?”
Quinn glares at her.
“Can we talk in private?” she asks Steven.
“No. Whatever you have to say, do it in front of everyone here.”
“Steven, this isn’t something—”
“I don’t care, Mom. Start talking.”
“I can leave—”
“No,” Steven growls.
I freeze.
He releases a breath. “Sorry. Harper, stay. Please.”
I nod and sit. Quinn stomps over to the playpen and takes Hope out then sits down on the ground with her.
“Can I give Hope a hug and kiss?” Beth asks.
“Of course you can,” Jamison responds, and Quinn refocuses her glare on him.
Beth picks up Hope and holds her tight. I suddenly feel sorry for her. I shouldn’t, based on her actions and lack of disclosure to Steven, but the entire situation is sad. You can see how much she loves Hope, and I believe she loves Steven and Quinn, too, but somehow, her relationship with Maximillion has her making bad choices.
Steven crosses his arms. “What has he gotten you involved in, Mom?”
She points to the couch. “Can you sit?”
