“Sure. What?”
“If I leave and go somewhere else, would you come with me?”
She tilts her head. “Where?”
“I’m not sure yet, but my options don’t look good. Dudmeyer says if I don’t work on the campaign, I’m fired. And I won’t do it.”
“Tell me where you want to go, and let’s talk.”
“All right. I will. And thanks for bringing this over.”
She smiles. “You’re welcome. Nice seeing you again, Harper.”
“You, too.”
She leaves.
I sit on Steven’s lap and put my arms around his shoulders. “Are you going to look for another job?”
“I think it’s my only choice. Plus, if Dudmeyer and the board are so up Maximillion’s ass, I don’t want anything to do with the company.”
“So we’re both going to be job hunting in Chicago, then?”
His lips twitch. “Are you telling me you’ll stay?”
My heart races. “Do you still want me to?”
He rises with me in his arms. “I think it’s better if I show you how much I want you to stay.”

Steven
When I open my eyes,Harper is gone. I panic at first then find a note on the nightstand.
Steven,
You were too cute to wake up. I’ll see you after my meeting with Cindy. Claire texted and she and Ethan will be at Jamison and Quinn’s at noon. Can you call Jamie and tell him?
XOXO
Harper
PS - I like your bed.
Oh,hot woman, I love you in it.
I try to stop the perma-grin, but it’s pointless. Harper and I had an afternoon of sexual escapades, followed by a dinner where we couldn’t keep our hands off each other, and more sex past midnight. We finally fell asleep. It’s the first night I slept well in a long time.
Harper is staying in Chicago.
I need to find a job to support us.
Claire, please be able to help my mom.
I pick up my phone and text Quinn and Jamison to have my mom ready to meet with Claire at noon.
It’s nine. Later than I usually sleep, but my body probably needed it. Harper was meeting Cindy at nine for breakfast, so I must have just missed her.
