She bites on her lip. "Okay."
He leaves, and she watches him, her forehead scrunched in confusion.
Dmitri holds out a plate. "Have some food, Nora."
She puts her hand over her stomach. "He's back, isn't he?"
Dmitri's eyes widen in surprise.
She nods. "Yes. I know. Everything. When does it stop?"
I'm not sure if they are talking about Zamir or Lorenzo. But a chill digs into my bones.
"Soon. We're working on it."
What does that mean?
"He can't take much more."
"Boris knows what he's doing."
"He may be your brother, but I know him. This needs to end."
"We're fully aware."
She closes her eyes and turns to Maksim. "I'm sorry, but please take me home."
He nods. "Sure."
She addresses me, avoiding Dmitri. "Thank you for having me. Can we talk tomorrow about the design?"
I want to reach out and hug her. She looks so worried. But I'm not sure what to do. "Yes. I'll call you in the afternoon?"
"Please."
"Nora," Dmitri says.
Pain fills her expression. She blinks hard and stares at him. A tear falls down her cheek.
"We're going to end this," he repeats.
She wipes her face. "Killian promised that as well. We all know what happened to Sean."
Dmitri takes a deep breath. "We will end this."
She nods and leaves.
I lean into Dmitri's ear. "Who called Boris? Lorenzo or Zamir?"
His jaw twitches against my forehead. "Zamir."
So this is the one night a year.
How are they going to end this?
I shudder, and Dmitri only pulls me closer.
