Relief fills me. "Good. So is that what you wanted to talk about?"

Dmitri shakes his head. He lowers his voice. "I need to change your lockdown stipulations."

My chest tightens. "Why?"

"Lorenzo is increasing his threats."

I move my food around on my plate. "Okay. What does this mean?"

"It's best if you don't leave the penthouse until we have things under control."

Until they kill him is what he means.

I don't need to ask. I put my fork down. "I'm ummm..."

"I'm sorry, kotik. I know it isn't convenient for you to be confined to the house."

"I'm not worried about that. I can work. But..." My insides quiver. I blurt out, "I don't want anything to happen to you or your brothers."

"Don't worry, we'll be careful," Dmitri says, but he and Sergey exchange a glance.

It only makes my stomach flip. "What aren't you telling me?"

Dmitri strokes my cheek. "Nothing. Thank you for not fighting me on the lockdown changes."

"Of course. You wouldn't do it if you didn't think it was necessary."

"No, I wouldn't."

I force a smile. "Okay. I'll stay in. I was going to meet Harper at Vivian's today, but I'll have her come here instead."

Dmitri traces my jaw. "That's a good idea."

I pick up my phone and text Harper and ask her to come here instead.

She texts back, "Vivian said she's too tired to go anywhere today. Let's keep it at her place."

Great. What do I tell her?

I stare at the phone.

"What's wrong?" Dmitri asks.

"Harper said Vivian is too tired to go anywhere today and we should stick to her place. What do I tell her?"

I can't tell her the truth. What would I say? Hey, Harper, my man is, but isn't, involved with several crime families. And the son of the Italian mafia is making threats, so I can't leave the penthouse.

"Tell her you're behind on your projects and need the extra time," Dmitri states. "Hopefully, this will be over soon, and you won't be in these uncomfortable situations."

"What are you going to do to end it?" I ask.

"Anna, you don't want to know this information." Sergey takes a bite of toast. His eyes are hard.

"Sergey's right. This is not something you need to know, kotik," Dmitri says. "Information on anything about to happen could harm you."

Don't waver in your trust in him. He would tell you if you needed to know anything.

"Eat." Dmitri motions to my plate.
