"Are you going to kill him?" I blurt out.
Sergey raises his eyebrows at Dmitri.
I wave my hand in front of Sergey's face. "I'm right in front of you. And I'm not stupid."
"No one said you were," Dmitri states. "But we will not answer questions about this. I will not put you in more danger."
My stomach twists. Not at the thought of Lorenzo dying but that something could happen to Dmitri or his brothers.
"Finish making your plans with Harper," Dmitri gently says.
I sigh and text Harper I'm behind on projects and can't make it to Vivian's but hope Harper can still come over.
Dmitri holds a forkful of eggs to my mouth. "Eat before it gets cold."
I eat the eggs but not much more. Harper replies she'll come to my place. We finish breakfast, and Dmitri takes me into our bedroom.
He cups my cheeks. "You hardly ate."
"I trust you, Dmitri, I do. And if you say I shouldn't know what you are planning, then I won't push. But I have this feeling something bad is going to happen."
He pulls me into him. "I don't want you worried, kotik. I'm sorry you have to stay in the penthouse right now. I know you deserve better."
I glance up. "There is nothing better than us together. As long as I'm with you, I have the best. But I don't want anything to go wrong. If something happens to you..."
"Shh. Nothing is happening to me." He kisses me. "What time is Harper coming over?"
"Noon. What is your schedule today?"
"Sergey and I need to work with Victor on some things. My brothers and I also have a meeting later this afternoon."
"Will you be home late?"
"I shouldn't. Why don't I text you when I know the time, and I'll pick up dinner on the way home?"
"All right. And you'll be careful?"
"Of course. Will you feel better if I text you when I get to Maksim's?"
"Yes. Please."
He kisses my forehead then tugs me into his arms. "I'm sorry you have to deal with this."
I circle my arms around him tightly. "Stop apologizing. I just don't want anything to happen to you."
"It won't."
"Dmitri," Sergey calls.
"What?"
"Viktor needs us."
Dmitri sighs then squeezes my ass and kisses my head again. "Duty calls."
"I need to get ready and start work on Nora's pub anyway."
We part ways, and I spend the rest of my morning engrossed in Nora's project.
