He clenches his jaw.
"Yeah, I thought so. I'll send you the sheet on what I order today." I walk out of the locker room and slam the door on my way out.
I'm angry we're about to lose millions and Lada screwed us over. I'm happy Anna's on the project, and we're going to get some fresh ideas. I think it's been long overdue anyway. And I don't want to hear my brothers' opinions today.
I get in the car and realize I don't even have Anna's phone number. It's only seven in the morning, but I dial Vivian.
She picks up after one ring. "Morning."
"Sorry to bother you so early, but I didn't get Anna's cell number or tell her what time I would pick her up today."
"She's here. Do you want to talk to her?"
I debate. "Actually, would you have time this morning to meet? I have some things I want to run by you and get your opinion on."
"Sure. When do you want to come over?"
"I just left the gym, so whenever."
"Come over now. I'll tell Anna to get ready."
"Thanks, but tell her there is no rush. I don't want her to stress."
"All right. Coffee?"
"Sure."
"See you soon."
I hang up, and my stomach flips. I don't like where I left things with Anna last night. I wish it would have ended differently.
If only she wasn't still caught up on her ex.
If he really is her ex.
God, please let him be and stay her ex.
The car ride to Vivian's is short. I'm soon standing in her kitchen. Anna is nowhere to be seen, which doesn't calm my nerves.
"Sit." Vivian points to the table. She hands me a cup of coffee and takes a seat across from me.
Chase walks in and slaps my hand. "Dmitri. How are you?"
"Good. You?" I don't know Chase very well. I've only met him a few times. I'm aware of his business acumen as well as his friends he seems to be partnered with who have all moved to Chicago from New York.
"I'm good. I heard you hired Anna for one of your new builds."
"Yeah. She's saving our ass. My designer took off with no notice."
"Well, thanks for hiring her. Maybe growing her business here will give her the confidence she needs to leave her old life in New York behind without any second thoughts."
My stomach flips.
Vivian clears her throat and smiles. "So, what did you want to ask me about?"
"It's actually an idea Anna had yesterday. If we develop the roof on the East Bay project with an athletic area, park, and community gathering area, do you think we can get more for the units?"
Vivian takes a sip of water. "There is no park anywhere near that area."
