"Julieta, what is this place?" I ask.
"Safety for the night," she mumbles and gets out of the Jeep, as if in a trance.
Vanessa says, "Julieta."
But Julieta moves forward in the darkness.
I get out and run around the vehicle. "Wait." I reach for her arm.
She spins and takes a step back.
I hold my hands in the air. "Just me."
"Sorry," she whispers and continues toward the front door.
Where the hell are we?
Julieta hesitates but then bangs the heavy brass knocker against the door.
The house is so dark. There isn't one light on in any of the multiple windows. I ask, "Are there people here?"
"Yes."
Metal creaks and a beast appears in front of us. His hair hangs wild, and he's at least seven feet tall. His shirtless body is hard as a rock, and one lonesome tattoo in large letters splays across his chest. It reads Liliana.
"Liliana?" His voice is gruff, as if he hasn't spoken in years.
Julieta is his Liliana?
I don't know who this man is, but I'm not stupid. If he's calling Julieta Liliana and has it tattooed on his body, he must be someone special to her.
Jealousy, and a bit of anger, race through my veins.
She said she had no one.
How can she have no one if a man has a tattoo of her nickname on him?
Is he even mortal? Maybe he's a demigod.
Julieta nods and clears her voice. Tears fall down her cheeks. She chokes out, "Miguel."
The giant steps forward and picks her up, and she begins to sob.
She's taken. This entire time, I've been obsessed with a woman who's already taken.
No wonder she got spooked and crawled back onto the mattress last night.
And who am I to compete with Mr. Immortal?
They speak Spanish quickly back and forth, in between her sobs, and his hand is so big, it wraps almost around her entire head.
His dick must be enormous.
I thought mine was big but...oh, jeez.
The longer he holds her, the more uncomfortable I get. And I realize how incredibly screwed I am.
How did I let myself develop feelings this intense for someone I don't know in one freaking day?
