"Guess it's just us. Do you know how long it takes to get to Belize?" Hunter asks.
"I think over twelve hours."
He whistles. "Well, I'm stoked to go somewhere new. I was surprised when Interpol messaged we were leaving the eastern hemisphere."
I nod. "Yeah, me, too."
Except I learned a day ago about Santiago's hostages.
I'm so ready to stop lying.
Hunter and the other guys don't know it yet, but five women are hostages of Santiago Gómez, the Colombian drug lord. One woman has been with him for eighteen months. The others, all for different lengths of time, except one, who's being kidnapped right at this moment.
All the women are valuable, full of secrets and information. While Santiago would have tried to get whatever he can out of them, they are weapons to get his brother, Nicolas, out of the Belizean prison.
A large faction of the Global Leaders have been plotting against Santiago and making alliances with other drug cartel leaders. They want these women back for many different reasons.
Neither situation can happen. Our job is going to be to deliver them to safety so no one can get to them. I don't know where Interpol will have us deliver them yet, but if any of these women go back to the situation they were in before they got abducted, their chance of dying is great.
Hunter pulls a deck of cards out of his backpack. "Winner gets the bedroom."
"Deal."
There's only one bedroom in the plane. The flight is long, so I want the bedroom as much as Hunter does.
After I lose several rounds, I throw the cards down and put my chair back. "I'm out. Enjoy your bed."
He rises and cockily grins. "Will do. Enjoy your chair."
I grunt.
We sleep most of the flight. When we wake up, the flight attendant serves us breakfast.
"Eggs are so much better with cream and chives in them," Hunter grumbles after he bites into his bagel sandwich.
"This isn't the Ritz."
"It's a sin not to put them in."
I take another bite, chew, then swallow. "Eat up. Who knows what Interpol sent."
"Point taken."
We finish eating, land, then get on the helicopter that's waiting for us. It doesn't take long before the aircraft is hovering over the jungle.
Hunter and I put our harnesses on then get lowered to the ground. As soon as we release ourselves, the lines go up, and the helicopter flies away.
Dirk and Axel are already there, holding folders.
"Those your targets?" I ask.
"Yep. Dirk's wet dreams get to come true. He's rescuing Zoe Diego," Axel teases.
"Asshole," Dirk mutters under his breath.
"No shit?" I ask, playing dumb. I already know Zoe's on the list and figured Dirk would be assigned to her, since he's the only one who speaks fluent Spanish. Plus, if Kalim assigned anyone else to Zoe, Dirk would kill him with his bare hands. He's been a huge fan of hers forever. We've strategized for over a year about where she could be. I didn't know until yesterday when Gustave told me about this rescue mission.
"Who do we have?" Hunter asks.
