So she’s his lover and here I thought she was the nanny.
The woman looks at the man and gives him a smile before opening the door a bit wider, inviting me in.
When I step through the threshold, it’s like I’m transported from a home decor magazine.
A little boy, no more than two comes running into the room, calling out mama and running towards the young woman.
Interesting situation they have here.
The man watching what I assume is his wife and son for a second before turning to me and giving me a tight smile.
“It’s nice to meet you, Jennifer. My name is Dante, a friend of Maddox.”
Dante.
The man that owns the strip club where Maddox almost overdosed.
The mafia man.
Shit. What has Maddox gotten into?
“Is Maddox okay?” I ask, my voice shaking a bit.
Of course its shaking. My boyfriend went off to do god knows what and is now at the house of the head of the mafia. Just being in this man’s presence terrifies me.
Dante gives me a small smile, one that I doubt he gives anyone but his family. “He’s fine, drunk but he’s fine.”
Drunk.
That means he went to find alcohol and not his next hit.
Unless…
“He was just drinking?” I ask, wanting to just reassure myself.
Dante doesn’t give me a nod or anything, he just looks at me as if he is trying to figure out a way to answer my question. “Would you like the honest truth?” he asks after a minute.
Would I?
The truth going to piss me off even more that what I already am?
Most likely, but I rather now then go wherever Maddox in blind.
I give Dante a nod, and he gives me one back. He doesn’t say anything, he just nods at his wife, excusing us and waving for me to follow him.
Once we are in the massive living room, one that I have to keep myself from drooling over, Dante waves for me to take a seat on the couch.
Dante doesn’t waste any time and gets right to the point. “Drinking wasn’t his first choice. He went looking for a hit. Thankfully he went to one of my men, who didn’t go through with the deal and they called me. Found him on a bench drinking out of a bottle, so I brought him here.”
I close my eyes and try to take in a deep breath. I don’t know how to handle this information.
Maddox left the hospital and went to look for drugs.
He could have done so many things, gone to the gym to workout the anger, he could have gone for a walk, he could have talked to me, but he chose to do the one thing that put him in this situation in the first place. He chose to seek out the drug that almost cost him his career. The very drug that Dante helped him fight.
His mom needed him at her side and he walked out and called a dealer.
I’m more pissed now than I have been all day.
