“Would you come visit when you can?” Annaleigh asks as she hands me a cup for an order she just took.

“Just because I’m leaving doesn’t mean you won’t see me. I’ll be in here so much you won’t even believe I’m gone.” I say, giving her a smile.

Am I fibbing a little? Maybe. But hey, it might be the truth. I’ve been working here since I was in college, it’s going to feel weird not coming in every other day.

“Do you have a job lined up and everything?” she asks as I lather the inside of the cup with caramel.

I shake my head. “As of right now, no job but I’m working on it.”

And by working on it, I mean I am trying to convince Hunter, Selena’s boyfriend, that he needs a social media manager in his corner.

What quarterback that just won his first super bowl doesn't need a social media manager?

If I took over his accounts, he would have a whole lot more time to fuck my best friend. I see that as a win.

Jacobi does not apparently because in the two weeks since I started to bug him for the job, he hasn’t budged. I’ve even tried to get Selena to withhold sucking him off to see if that would work, and guess what? It didn’t. So now I have to figure out a new tactic to make him see that I’m the perfect person to handle all his socials.

Maybe I’ll get the job if I stop calling him Hunty?

I think about it for about a second before I laugh at myself at the ridiculousness of that.

“So, what are you going to do while you find one?” Annaleigh asks, concern coating her voice.

I love her for being concerned about me.

“I have a few freelance gigs lined up, so those should hold me down until at least next month. My plan is to find something more permanent during them, so fingers crossed.”

I’m giving Jacobi one more month to hire me, and if he still says no then I will find someone else that would love my social media skills.

“You seem overly calm about this.” She states, a small smile on her face.

Do I? Because on the inside I’m freaking out.

What if Hunter doesn’t hire me?

What happens then?

Do I give up my apartment and move back to Seaside to live with my parents?

I love living in the city and even though my apartment is the size of a shoebox, it’s my sanctuary and I don’t want to give it up.

“Because everything will work out.” I tell her, trying to give her my best smile.

I sure hope that I’m right because sure as hell don’t want to come back here asking for my job again.

The rest of my shift moves slowly but thankfully with not very many customers. I’m guessing it’s because it’s opening day over at the baseball stadium and everyone in the city has a ticket.

I only know about the game because Selena told me that Hunter had gotten them tickets. She had invited me, but I declined her offer, what with it being my last day in all.

Because of the game though, my boss decided to close the shop early, just in case any of us had tickets to the sporting event. Some of the girls did.

As for me, I’m planning on taking a shower and spending the rest of my day in my bed, watching something random on Netflix.

A nap is definitely on the schedule.

Annaleigh, me and Courtney, the other barista, finish our shifts and go through all the closing duties together and are able to walk out the door five minutes after closing.

“Please don’t forget about us,” Annaleigh says as she gives me the tightest hug known to man.
