Page 37 of Fake Love

At this moment in time, it doesn't seem like we’re getting anywhere. So instead of waiting for her to ask a question, I ask one of my own.

“How often is ‘every now and then’?” Is it a vice that she has? Something she does when she feels anxious? Nervous? Scared? Just because?

Jen turns, giving me an easy smile not only with her lips but also her brown eyes.

“Maybe once a month, if that. Usually when I’m over thinking something or just bored, not something I use to get by. Which is why I will be throwing away whatever stash I have when I get home. If you’re drug free, so am I.”

“Thank you.” I say, because what else do I say?

She’s giving up something just because I asked her to be in my life for a short period of time and because of my history. Saying thanks seems inadequate but that’s all I can come up with.

“You’re welcome,” another smile, except this time it's warm and caring. “So should we start setting these ground rules we desperately need?”

Right, the very reason why we’re here.

“What kind of rules do you have in mind?”

I don’t know what it entails to have a fake girlfriend, hell or even a real one at that, how would I know what rules are needed.

Jen turns in her chair and faces me straight on. “Well, no PDA unless there are people around, for one. We don’t need our lines to be blurred.”

“So no repeat of the night we had last month?” I’m joking, mostly.

Would I love to repeat that night with her, right this second? Fuck, yes. I’m dying to get between those thighs again, especially seeing her in those shorts last week.

My comment earns me a smack on the arm. “As much as I want to, no. No repeat of that night. That would blur lines beyond repair.”

She does have a point.

“Okay, so PDA where there are people around and no repeat. Anything else?”

“We only tell the people that really need to know. We can’t have people spilling our secrets to the world.” She says, her head shaking in the process.

Another good point.

“I’m only planning on telling Ben, my manager, since this was his idea. He might help spreading the word about our new ‘relationship’”

He had asked me a few days ago how it was doing with the whole rebuilding my brand for the people and I almost told him but I wanted to run it by Jen first. So I kept it minimal.

“That’s fine. I was thinking about telling Selena, my best friend. No way would I be able to keep this from her. That girl may be quiet but she is perspective as hell when it comes to me and she will call me out.”

“That’s fine by me.” Who am I to get in between a girl and her best friend? “Another rule is you have to come to as many games as you can, both home and away.”

This makes her eyebrows shoot up in confusion.

“You want me to travel with you?” She asks, surprised.

I nod. “It will make things more believable. Besides, you’re also taking care of my socials, you need to travel with me to get content to post.”

Her traveling with me was a fleeting thought that I had a few days ago. It made scenes at the time, but now that I brought it up and seeing the look on her face, it might be a bad idea.

“Will I get my own room?” She asks, her voice getting a little high.

I shake my head. “I can’t have my girlfriend sleeping in a separate room as me.”

Actually, I can but that would just raise more questions.

Jen narrows her eyes at me, as if she is trying to see if I’m playing a joke on her.
