Page 40 of Fake Love

Right, I never told her about my night with the lovely forearm god.

Might as well tell her now.

“Do you remember a little over a month ago, I said I was coming over and I texted and canceled later that night?”

“You ditched me for a professional athlete?”

“Hey to be fair you ditch me for one all the time. Can you blame a girl? Those forearms are something else and his tongue, magical.”

Thinking about how his tongue felt against me that night and everything I felt when he slid into me, makes me want to rethink the whole not wanting to sleep with Maddox again.

Maybe it would be good for the two of us.

That is if feelings aren’t involved.

“I can’t believe this is the first I’m hearing about this.” Selena lets out, a little shocked.

Honestly, I am too. I tell Sel everything, and I would have told her about this when it first happened but for some reason I didn’t.

Maybe I wanted to keep what happened between Maddox and me that night for myself.

“First time hearing what?” A male voice sounds through the dining room, telling me that Hunter is officially infiltrating our girls' day.

“That Jennifer here, slept with a professional athlete that she is now working for.”

I roll my eyes and stick out my tongue at her.

“What professional athlete?” Hunter asks, looking over his shoulder at me as he pours himself a cup of coffee.

I shrug. “Some baseball player from the Miners. Maddox Bauer.”

My coughing fit from earlier has nothing on the one that Selena is currently experiencing as I said Maddox’s name. I hand her a napkin to clean up the coffee that she spit out but she just slaps my hand away.

“You slept with Maddox Bauer?!” She exclaims as if she’s never met someone famous before.

“You’ve heard of him?” I ask.

Up until a few weeks ago, I didn’t even know who this guy was. Given my best friend’s reaction and the amount of pictures going around Instagram of the two of us at the game, the guy is a bigger deal than I thought.

Hunter lets out a snort as takes a seat at the table. “Know him? She almost ruptured my eardrum when she found out that he was traded to San Francisco.”

Selena throws a napkin at her fiancé. “It wasn’t that loud and you’re fine. You’d be excited too if you got a future hall of famer on your team.”

“Lennie, baby, I am a future hall of famer. That’s the only thing you should care about.” He throws a wink at Selena and I can tell she isn’t impressed.

Frankly, neither am I. “Hunty, let’s not get corny right now.”

Hunter narrows his eyes at me when I call him Hunty. I just throw a shrug at him.

“Back to the topic at hand,” Selena says, “Do you really think it's a good idea to work with someone that you already slept with?”

I don’t even have to think about it. No, it’s not a good idea, especially if I’m going to pretend to be his fake girlfriend, but I’m not going to tell her.

“It's a good job, Sel. One that I’ve wanted for a long time. I can help him build his image back up and show people who he really is outside of baseball. It would be good exposure. Yes, I slept with the man and it might have been a great night, but I can forget about it and get the job done.”

I will never be able to forget about it and I don’t want Maddox to forget about it either, but things have to be done to get what we both want.

“Is it even possible to forget when you will be reminded every time you have to put on the fake girlfriend mask on?”
