“I’m proud of you,” she whispered, kissing him.
“Why, what did he do now?” Flash’s voice said. Cass jumped as Flash put his hands on her shoulders.
“Where did you come from?” Cass asked. Flash put his arms around her waist and pulled her against him.
“I’m sneaky. I sneaky-stalked you.”
“Hmm. Can’t say I mind having you behind me,” Cass said, smiling.
“I don’t mind it either,” Flash said, grinning. He reached past Slade to grab Cass’s hands.
“Shall we dance?” Flash asked.
Slade grinned. “I’ll be back for my turn.”
Cass turned to face Flash, melting into his arms as they began to sway together. The breeze sang in the trees around them, and the sky stretched out above her, as endless and deep as her love.
Chapter24
Flash
The sounds of the reception faded behind him as he hurried into the trees. Some of Cass’s family and the wolves were camping out in the forest. Others had rented cabins nearby. Flash had wondered if anyone would actually need their beds, though. It was past midnight, and the party was still going strong.
Flash picked up his pace, wanting to get to his destination before Slade and Cass arrived. He’d set up this surprise much earlier in the day, and he wanted everything to be perfect. As he came through the trees to the meadow, he was pleased to see everything was still and quiet.
A large tent had been set up, the walls glowing with orange fire from the battery-powered lamps inside. The entire space in the tent was covered in thick pillows and blankets. Champagne and all of Cass’s favorite foods waited inside.
He stripped, getting completely naked and throwing himself down on the silk cushions. He was just in time as only a few seconds passed before he heard Slade leading Cass through the forest toward the tent.
“Seriously, where are we going?” Cass said, giggling. “My uncle Elroy challenged your great-uncle Dane to an arm-wrestling contest, and Aunt Celia says a wolf can’t beat a mage, but Flash’s great-aunt Mabel says a wolf always tops a wizard ...”
“I agree, that might be something worth seeing,” Slade said, cutting her off. “But this can’t wait another second. From the way our families are getting along, I think you might see a few more gatherings like this. Maybe even weddings.”
“That’ll be the day,” Cass muttered. “Oh, what’s this?” she cried, surprised.
Flash listened to their steps rustling closer and posed dramatically. Cass threw open the side curtain and burst out laughing when she saw his affected pose, stretched limbs, and overly flexed muscles.
Flash held it for as long as he could before falling down on the cushions, laughing until he was breathless. Cass tried to hurry over to him but tripped on her gown and tumbled down onto the cushions, giggling as Flash caught her.
They rolled across the cushions together until Flash came out on top, pinning Cass by her wrists. He kissed her softly, feeling the heat rising in his body as well as hers.
“Is this your big surprise?” Cass asked. Flash nodded.
“That’s why we told you not to book anything for the honeymoon straight after the wedding. We want to hang out in the woods for a while.”
“I can get down with that,” Cass said, relaxing underneath Flash. “Especially if it’s going to be this comfortable. This is like a sultan’s tent.”
“Good,” Slade said, sitting next to her. “That’s exactly what we were going for.”
Cass giggled as she realized he was naked, letting her eyes linger on his body. Slade’s beautiful muscles and smooth skin gleamed in the flickering light, and Flash saw him flex for her.
Not to be outdone, Flash bent his head and kissed her, kneading her lips with his. He felt Cass soften under him, her legs opening to trap him between her thighs and in the folds of her dress.
“This is the surprise that couldn’t wait?” she asked. He grinned, nodding.
“I know I can’t wait anymore,” he said.
“Neither can I,” Slade whispered.
