Is someone coming in here?
The door handle twisted, and my body was still trying to decide if it wanted to go into fight, flight, or freeze mode when Hunter tugged on my arm and pulled me into the tiny storage space beside us.
The light switched on just as we slipped out of sight and footsteps sounded on the floor. Hunter slipped his arms around my waist to pull me close, my back flushed with his chest as he leaned against the cupboards.
The footsteps were light as they tread across the room. I tried to get my breathing under control, sure that whoever had joined us would hear each inhale and exhale.
A chair screeched on the floor, and a few seconds later, there was the sound of keys clacking on a keyboard.
I turned my head to the side and whispered, “What should we do?”
“Probably just hide here until they leave,” Hunter whispered back.
Which could take, how long?
I looked around, wishing our school was a magical castle with secret passageways that appeared when you needed them. But all we had close by was a solid brick wall with a few low cupboards and a wooden countertop.
So waiting it was.
I sighed and closed my eyes, leaning my head back to rest against Hunter’s shoulder. As long as whoever was in here didn’t check the storage space, maybe being forced so close against Hunter wouldn’t be so bad.
He did smell really nice today. And he was warm.
We stood there for a couple of minutes, listening to the clacking of keyboard keys. I was starting to get bored of just standing there when Hunter bent his head down and pressed a kiss to my neck.
My eyes fluttered open, surprised at the soft touch of his lips to the tender skin. And all I wanted was to ask him to do it again. Because even though it was only the slightest touch, the electricity shooting from my head down to my toes felt so good.
His face nuzzled into my neck, his breath warm on my skin as he whispered, “I miss being so close to you.” His hot breath moved up my neck and toward my ear, sending chills racing everywhere. “You always smell so good.”
I wanted to say something, to break the tension mounting inside of me, but the sound of the printer whirring to life reminded me we weren’t alone.
As our “intruder” walked to the printer, I hoped they’d retrieve their paper and leave, but a few seconds later, they walked back to their chair and turned on some rock music.
“Sounds like they’re still not done yet,” I whispered, glad that the music would at least leave more of a buffer to any sounds we made.
“I guess not.” He pressed a slow kiss to my temple and then my cheek. “But I kind of don’t mind being stuck back here.”
“Me either…” I closed my eyes and leaned my head against his shoulder again.
He brushed my hair to the side and pulled the collar of my shirt away to trail slow kisses down the curve of my neck, sending tingles all the way down to my toes. And all I could think was that he wasreallygood at this non-verbal communication thing. He was taking my breath away.
His hands slipped down my sides and across my waist. After mumbling something about my blazer being in the way, he undid the button and slipped it off my shoulders and down my arms, letting it quietly drop to the floor.
He slid his hands across the thin fabric at my stomach, making my ab muscles tighten and twist in an unfamiliar way.
And as he ran his fingertips lightly up my arms, I briefly wondered if I was even allowed to feel this good. Like, was it okay to feel this kind of heat in my veins? Or this churning in my belly?
I wasn’t sure anymore. I wasn’t sure where the line should be.
I wanted to think that it was fine, because it felt so good and I was pretty sure Hunter wouldn’t try to push me further than I wanted—even if his limits may have changed in the past few months.
So when Hunter, who seemed to have sensed my thoughts, quietly asked, “Is this okay?” I decided to just be honest and said, “Yes.”
Because if I was just talking about what was happening in this moment right here, everything he was doing—the way he was holding me—was okay with me.
Better than okay.
It was like being transported onto another plane and finding myself in heaven.
