I nodded.

“Well,” Hunter said. “It certainly took us long enough.”

“And yet, it all worked out just the way it was supposed to.”

“Yes, it did.” He bent close and gave me a tender kiss that made my stomach flutter.

When he pulled back and his gorgeous green eyes met mine, it felt like my heart might burst because I still couldn’t believe he was mine and I was his.

Even when we were old and gray, I was pretty sure I’d feel like the luckiest girl in the world to have won the heart of the man of my dreams.

When the door to the coffee shop opened, I looked back at Hunter’s computer and asked, “So what are all those comments you were reading about, anyway?”

“Just some people being excited for us.” He got a half-smile on his lips. “People saying they wished a guy would talk about them the way I talk about my girlfriend.”

“You did say some really sweet things.”

“It’s easy to say when they’re all true.”

Gah! I had to cover my heart with my hand because Hunter really was getting me all up in my feelings this morning.

But then he got an amused smile on his lips, and I knew there was more to the comments than what he’d said so far.

So I asked, “What else are people saying? Did they figure out who you are?” Because there weren’t too many people at our school who had recently started dating their best friend.

He just grinned and pointed at a particular comment thread and said, “No one has guessed who I am yet, but I’m guessing it’s because a lot of people are excited to find out thatThe Confidantis part of the LGBTQ+ community.”

“What?” I frowned, so confused at how they would have gotten to that assumption. “How did you dating your best friend make your readers jump to those conclusions about your sexual orientation?”

“Because just like you assumed yourself, it appears that most of my readers don’t think thatThe Confidantcould ever be written by a guy.” He chuckled, like he got a huge kick out of misleading so many people with his pseudonym. Pointing to a specific comment, he said, “Like this one here that says, 'I’m so excited thatThe Confidantfinally gotherhappily ever after, too.’”

“Well, that’s sweet that everyone is so excited for you…” I said, unable to contain my grin. “Even if they filled in a few of the details wrong.”

“It is fun.” He took my hand in his, giving it a squeeze. “But it was even more fun having a chance to brag a little about you.”

I squeezed his hand back. “Just let me know when you’re ready to come out of the writer’s closet so I can finally brag about how I’m the lucky girl who’s datingThe Confidant.”

“I will,” he said. “For now though, you’ll just have to settle for dating Hunter Blackwell.”

“Which, since he’s mega-hot and amazing, is pretty brag-worthy all on its own.”

“I thought you were the one who was mega-hot, though.”

I shrugged. “Pretty sure it’s both of us.”

He grinned. “Then it looks like we are the perfect match.”

I chuckled, and before leaning in to give him a quick kiss, I whispered, “I really think that we are.”

“I seethat you’ve done an even better job of confusing your fans about whoThe Confidantmight actually be,” I said to Hunter as I brought the breakfast sandwiches he and his girlfriend had ordered to their table.

“You noticed the comments, too?” Hunter chuckled.

“I’ve told you I’m a fan,” I said.
