I agree with Nicole. I’d suspected they were in a relationship, but I assumed they would keep it on the down-low. Hooking up in the supply closet is a bad look for anyone, but especially for a supervisor and her underling. Merhalle has a no-fraternizing policy. They should’ve been more careful.

“What will happen to them?” I ask.

Daisy shrugs. “No clue. This just happened today.”

I laugh. Leave it to Daisy to know gossip that quickly. It’s part of why I love hanging out with her. She keeps us updated on everything that’s going on at Merhalle.

“I think the company should change their rule about dating. I mean, I get that a supervisor can’t be screwing her employee, but why can’t someone from sales date someone from R&D?”

“The policy has never made sense to me.”

“Me neither,” Daisy agrees. “There’s no harm in employees dating. Especially when we’re stuck in that building for twelve hours a day. Where else are we supposed to meet people?”

The statement is funny, considering Daisy is married to an amazing man. And they didn’t even meet at work!

“Well, you could be like Amber and meet a guy at a convention.”

Daisy’s eyes widen. “You met a guy and didn’t tell me?”

I shrug. “It’s not a big deal.”

“Oh, please. Amber is, like, in love with him.”

I bite my lip. I really wish Nicole would stop saying that. It’s starting to feel a little too true.

“Ooh, I know that look,” Daisy says. “Something happened. Tell me all about it.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Don’t try to hide it from me. You know I have ways of uncovering secrets.”

That’s why Daisy is the company gossip. She knows things before even the CEO sometimes. I don’t know how she does it, and I don’t want to. The magic’s in the mystery.

“Okay, well, I did have an appointment with him last Friday.”

“Wait. He’s your doctor?”

I nod. “I’m testing a product for him.”

“Scandalous! Tell me more.”

If she thinks that is scandalous, she’s going to lose her mind when I tell her what happened at the appointment. I’ve been dying to talk to someone since last Friday. I need to get this off my chest.

“Well, the appointment was normal. He checked my skin and said the serum was working. But then…well, we kissed. And one thing led to another, and he ended up eating me out right there in the exam room.”

I speed through that last part. Once I’m finished, Daisy and Nicole blink at me. It takes a few minutes for the words to sink in.

“Oh my God,” is all Nicole can say.

Daisy opens and closes her mouth a few times before finally finding the right words.

“Girl, you are an inspiration.”

I burst out laughing. That is not what I expected her to say at all.

“It was wrong of me to do that in the doctor’s office, though.”

Daisy rolls her eyes. “You just heard me talk about two salespeople doing it in the supply closet at work. At least you had some privacy.”

That’s true. I was worried that one of AJ’s employees was going to walk in on us, but it was generally safe. Nothing compared to the office supply closet.

“I’m more concerned about what this means,” Nicole says. “Are you two dating now?”

I frown. Honestly, I haven’t put much thought into our relationship. I just keep replaying our appointment over and over again in my head and anticipating the next one.

“We didn’t talk about that,” I admit.

“Wait, seriously? The guy went down on you but didn’t say anything else?”

I chew on my lip. “Well, he did tell me to make another appointment with the receptionist.”

“Oh my. I have no idea what that means.”

“Me either!”

“Do you like him?” The question comes from Nicole.

“You know I do.”

She shakes her head. “No, I mean, do you really like him?”

“I don’t understand the difference.”

“You’ve spent more time with him now. Do you genuinely have feelings for Dr. Blake?”

That’s a loaded question, and Nicole knows it. Sure, I’ve seen him more than once, but that was for an appointment! I hardly had a chance to talk to him.

And yet, the answer I want to give is yes. I think I do have feelings for Dr. Blake. I’m not sure what, exactly, those feelings are, just that I have them.

“Your silence is an answer, you know,” Daisy smiles knowingly. “You really are smitten.”

I don’t bother correcting her. There’s no point. Daisy and Nicole have already come to a conclusion, one that I can’t bring myself to admit.

It’s crazy to fall for someone this quickly, especially when he’s supposed to be my doctor.

Luckily, the waitress arrives with our food, so I don’t have to deal with this conversation anymore. To guarantee my reprieve, I ask Nicole about her boyfriend before taking a big bite of my burger.

“Josh is great,” Nicole says. “We’re planning a trip between Christmas and New Year’s.”
