I laugh. “I promise. I don’t think AJ will mind, especially if you tell everyone you know how good the product is.”
“You can count on me,” Daisy promises. “Although, admittedly, I don’t know that many people aside from you two.”
“All your mommy friends!”
“True! They would love this. Becoming a mom ruins your skin.”
“Wait, really?” I ask.
Daisy shrugs. “Not technically, but it means less time for skincare routines. I haven’t properly washed my face since Belle was born. I barely have a chance to shower, let alone moisturize.”
I touch my face. I’ve put so much effort into fixing my skin. What if when I have kids, I lose all the progress I’ve made?
I shake off the thought. That won’t happen. I have a dermatologist who can make sure my skin stays beautiful.
“I’m not worried. I think the serum will really help you when it’s ready. It’s a miracle potion, honestly. I feel like I’m aging backwards.”
“That’s fantastic. I want some now. Are you sure I can’t join the testing stage?”
“I’ll ask AJ, but I’m pretty sure he’ll say no. His products are FDA approved, so he has to be careful with those that are in testing. That’s why we have appointments at his practice.”
“Appointments that end in sex.”
“I don’t think he tells the FDA that part,” I say, laughing.
“Probably for the best,” Nicole says. “You must be in love, Amber. You’re glowing.”
Her words are a shock, but they feel true, too. In such a short time, I feel more for AJ than I’ve ever felt for anyone.
“I have fallen in love,” I admit. “With the serum.”
Nicole and Daisy grin at me. The serum has definitely captured my heart with how well it’s working.
But I think I’ve fallen in love with the man behind it, too.

My Friday nights are usually spent alone in my apartment watching TV. Sometimes, I’ll hang out with Nicole, but she often has plans with her boyfriend on the weekends.
Tonight is different. I have plans with my own boyfriend!
The word feels great, even though AJ and I haven’t made our relationship official yet. Would he be put off if I use the term “boyfriend” to his face? Maybe we should talk about what to call each other tonight.
The best part about this date is that we’re going out! AJ called me at five to say he made reservations at a restaurant in the city for seven. I’m glad I wasn’t working late tonight! I managed to get out of the office by 5:15 so I would have plenty of time to get ready.
I know AJ doesn’t mind my natural look. I didn’t put a ton of effort into my appearance the first few times I saw him, and those interactions turned out fine. Still, if AJ went to the trouble of making a reservation, I want to look good for him.
I sit in front of the mirror at my vanity. My New York apartment is small and cramped, but I had to have a place to get ready. My bedroom barely fits my twin-sized bed and the vanity, but it’s worth it. I couldn’t be a true beauty marketer if I didn’t have my own beauty station, right?
The curling iron I use to tame my frizz is heating up as I apply my makeup. I don’t want to overdo it, so I stick with a heightened version of my usual look. Instead of regular eyeliner, I add wings, and I blend my eyeshadow to make my eyes look bigger. For my lips, I opt for a matte red.
With my makeup done, I work the curler through my hair. My locks are naturally curly, but the iron helps keep them in check. Otherwise, they fly wherever they feel like flying.
After I’m done, I check myself out in the vanity mirror. I look damn good if I do say so myself.
My phone rings. Nicole’s name pops up on the screen.
I answer, careful not to smudge my makeup.
“Hey, what’s up?”
“Not much. Josh is out with the boys tonight. Do you want to do something?”
“I’m sorry, I can’t. I have a date with AJ.”
“Ooh, what are you doing?”
“He’s taking me to a restaurant!”
Nicole squeals. “See! I told you there was nothing to worry about. Restaurants are very public!”
“I know. I’m glad you talked me off that ledge.”
“What are you wearing?”
“I think I’m going to wear a black dress.”
“You mean THE black dress?”
I giggle. “Yeah, that’s the one.”
Nicole and I were out shopping over the summer when we found this dress. She had a family wedding to go to, so she tried it on, but she hated how it looked on her frame. She insisted I give it a shot, and when I did, we both knew I needed to buy it.
The smooth, black fabric hugs my curves exactly the way I wish all my clothes did. My boobs and ass look fantastic, and it hides the extra flab on my stomach.
