I start toward her again. I need to get the product away from her.
But when I step closer, I catch a glimpse of her face.
Not only does she have a gorgeous body, but she has an even more beautiful face.
Briana, my employee, is telling the woman that she can’t use the product.
My mouth speaks on its own.
“Let her try it, Briana.”
My employee looks to me, her eyes wide with surprise. The woman turns to face me.
“I thought it wasn’t ready?” she asks.
“It’s still being tested, but you can be one of the samplers.”
“Blake…”
I hold up my hand toward Briana. “Don’t worry; it’s fine.”
Briana looks concerned, but she doesn’t try to say anything else. “Go ahead; give it a shot. Tell me what you think.”
The woman is hesitant, but she finally presses the pump and squeezes a small amount of the product into her hand.
This is a terrible idea. I really shouldn’t be testing this product on a person who hasn’t signed the proper forms. I shouldn’t be testing it on anyone, if I’m being honest.
Yet looking at her face, I don’t care. I would let this woman test whatever she wants.
If only she knew what she was testing.

I don’t know how I’m able to form words with this attractive man standing in front of me.
I’ve always struggled to talk to hot guys. It’s a serious problem.
Nicole nudges me with her elbow.
“You have to rub it in,” she whispers.
I glance at her, then back at the attractive man. He’s watching me expectantly. That’s what these people do when you’re trying out products.
“Who are you?” I ask, the serum pooling on my palm.
He offers me a hand to shake, but if I accept, it’ll be weirdly damp. He realizes his mistake and laughs.
“Right, sorry. You can rub that in, you know. It’s made for the face, but it should feel great on your hands.”
I slowly rub my hands together. The serum instantly smooths my cracked, dry skin. Sure, I have been using other products today, but none have worked as quickly or as well as this one.
“I’m Dr. Blake,” the man says. He holds out his hand again, and this time, I shake it. “I’m the scientist behind the serum in your hand.”
My eyes widen. “Seriously?”
“Yes, I’m the brains of Blake Cosmeceuticals. I’m the founder as well.”
The shock must be evident on my face because Dr. Blake continues.
“I know it’s odd that the founder and scientist of a company would be here. Usually, only the sales and marketing people man the booths at these events. That’s why Briana is here.”
The young woman doesn’t smile. She’s eyeing the serum bottle I’m still holding in my left hand. For some reason, Briana really doesn’t want me using this special moisturizer. I wonder what her problem is. It’s not like I did anything to her! I just picked up a bottle that was on display. Her reaction seems extreme. So does the deep frown on her face.
“I’m also a dermatologist, though, and I need to keep current on practices. That’s why I’m here. Plus, it’s nice to scope out my booth and see what people are enjoying. How do you like the serum?”
“It’s incredible,” I admit. “My hands feel so smooth.”
Dr. Blake grins. “That’s good to hear.”
“I’ve tried a lot of lotions today, but this one is by far my favorite.”
Briana gasps. I swear, that woman is being overly dramatic. What is her deal?
Dr. Blake shoots her a harsh look. She opens her mouth again to speak, but he cuts her off before she can say anything.
“Can I ask what you do in the industry? You’re not here to steal my formula, are you?”
He winks at me with that last part, but he may only be half-joking. I’ve heard stories of stolen products at events like this before. I know Merhalle keeps most of their in-depth ingredients lists under wraps to protect them from theft. People in this business can be ruthless.
Nicole and I laugh.
“We work in marketing,” I explain. “The only thing we might steal is your setup. Which, no offense, could use some work.”
Dr. Blake raises his brows at me. I swear, those piercing blue eyes can read my soul. I wish he’d stop looking at me. But I also wish he’d never stop looking at me.
My body and mind have no idea what they want right now, except maybe for Dr. Blake to push me up against the booth and…
“Well, that’s good to know. I’d hate for my secrets to be exposed.”
“Your secrets are safe with us,” I manage to say.
My voice only shakes a little bit, which means I’m getting more comfortable around Dr. Blake.
“I believe you,” he smiles.
Is this flirting? It feels like flirting. It’s been so long since I’ve bantered like this with a guy. Is this even bantering?
My heart is racing, but Nicole seems unfazed beside me. She has a long-term boyfriend, so I get it, but how can she not want Dr. Blake? He’s perfect in every way!
