“I’d say you were completely perfect for me.”
“You’re crazy, Bunt-boy,” she laughed nervously. “Nobody likes a skirt on a swimsuit.”
“I’m absolutely crazy about you and can’t wait to see you,” he replied. “Now, what about Greece?”
“You are going to just lob a grenade like that and not expect me to comment on it?” she questioned bluntly, hearing him laugh softly.
“I’m trying to keep my voice down so no one hears who I’m talking to – but yes. What do you think of Greece?”
“Greece would be a lot of walking, driving through town, seeing the ruins, but I would want to spend some time on the beach too. The water is supposed to be amazing and the food incredible.”
“My thoughts too,” he hedged, his voice bewitchingly soft and sensual, “So where do we go from here, my lovely date?”
“Greece,” she said softly.
“You’re on,” he replied tenderly. “Iceland is next because I really want to do a polar plunge and see the northern lights.”
“Sounds like we’ve got our first two dates planned out.”
“This will be our third and fourth date,” he countered, his voice getting extremely quiet, so much so that she could barely hear him. “The first was our dance outside in the sunshine at the wedding and the second was when you beat me in batting cages. Oh shoot, gotta be quiet.”
“You won at Skee-ball,” she said softly, touched that he was considering those were their first dates and understanding that he wasn’t alone. “So, I guess we are dating officially?”
“Yes ma’am.”
“You are very careful not to say my name,” she teased, chuckling, only to hear him laugh easily.
“Yes ma’am,” he repeated politely. “The walls have ears – and my calling card is almost up. I’ll send you the dates as soon as I have them and then transfer money to you using Paypal or Venmo.”
“We haven’t even discussed money, budget, or anything…” she protested.
“Find us a place that you would feel safe, close to the beach, and we’ll be fine. If it’s really expensive, then we’ll eat cheap and do cheap touristy things. I just want to go and experience it.”
“Matthew?”
“Yeah, ma’am?” he chuckled. “I’m trying.”
“I can tell,” she laughed easily. “This will be amazing.”
“Just because I get to see you again.”
“I’m so glad you called.”
“Go read my email,” he said gruffly. “I’ve gotta go. Other guys are waiting for the phone, ma’am.”
“Yes sir.”
“Goodnight, my forever date…” he whispered in a muffled voice.
“Goodnight.”
Jana hung up the phone and cradled it to her chest, before she realized what he’d said. He called her ‘his forever date’and she was touched.
He was so amazing, sweet, and kind that it was so hard to believe that someone hadn’t snatched up this incredible man already.
Opening his email again, she began to read, smiling the entire time. She actually laughed gently to herself reading his last paragraph where he admits to how excited he was about going, which explained his phone call.
The second email was a photo of him in the cockpit of his plane, holding up a piece of paper that simply said, ‘Merry Christmas’… she couldn’t even see his face because of his helmet – but it was adorable and so thoughtful.
